JAMAICA’S coach Minneth Reynolds was brimming with joy after her team sizzled in the fourth quarter to decimate visitors England at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) in the deciding third game of the Supreme Ventures Sunshine series on Tuesday.

The hosts’ 57-47 victory — after the game was tied at 37 at the end of the third quarter — gave them a 2-1 series win over England, rated one place above the world number four-ranked Jamaicans.

The commanding result inside the noise-filled Indoor Centre was set up by goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Reid, who came off the bench to lead the Sunshine Girls with 28 goals from 34 attempts.

Romelda Aiken, who started in the shooting position, was 15 from 19, while goal attack Shanice Beckford went 14 from 20.

The England Roses top goal shooter, Jo Harten, remained unfazed even throughout the final-quarter carnage, to hit 35 goals from 38 shots, while goal attack Pamela Cookey was 10 from 15.

“England pressured us, but we maintained our composure and yes, we were able to pull away in the fourth quarter,” Reynolds told reporters after the final buzzer.

“It might seem like it was the fourth quarter alone, but the girls really played well throughout.”

Reynolds said the policy of rotating ANZ Championship professional players Aiken and Fowler-Reid paid off handsomely.

“We have two world-class shooters and at no time have I doubted any of them… of not being capable to do the job. We don’t want to burn out any one of them. We planned to use them both in the game and it worked for us,” said the beaming Jamaica head coach.

Anna Mayes, the coach of England, said the fourth period of the game was the difference-maker in an otherwise closely contested affair.

“My team turned over the ball a lot in that final quarter. I think we were really competitive throughout the game, but credit to Jamaica because they nailed it in that last quarter just in terms of their ability to win possession, and they converted. We were just a little bit wasteful and playing against Jamaica, that [the loss] is what happens,” Mayes said.

The teams entered the clash tied 1-1 after sharing the first two games. In the series opener on Saturday, both countries were below their best, but Jamaica appeared that much sharper to comfortably win 56-47. The following day, England shook off the defeat to stun the Jamaicans 55-47 in a game called off a little over a minute early due to a power outage.

But Tuesday’s encounter was remarkably tight most of the way.

Jamaica were gutsy and used the looping balls over the top to find either Fowler-Reid or the even more towering Aiken.

England, arguably the better side throughout the first three quarters, displayed vibrant movements across the court while zipping passes past the Jamaicans through to the outstanding Harten.

Jamaica held a narrow 14-12 goal-lead at the end of the first quarter, but the scores were locked at 24 at the half-time break. At 37-37, there was also nothing to separate them entering the fourth.

But the Sunshine Girls, buoyed by the energy of the rocking, almost jam-packed venue, dug deep and put in an electric effort to crush the Roses.

Jamaica’s young wing defence Vangelee Williams and the seasoned Sasher-Gaye Henry exhibited defensive tenacity to help tip the match in the home team’s favour.

Williams chimed in with two crucial steals, and Henry, on as a substitute, hustled the English women with some robust play in the closing stages.

The series leaves a lot to ponder for England and plenty of joy for local supporters and Netball Jamaica. However, the big picture remains the Netball World Cup, which will be held in Australia in August.

Gayle blows hot on return to inspire Windies victory

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (CMC) — Explosive opener Chris Gayle announced his return to international cricket after nearly five months with a stunning half-century, but West Indies made a meal of their target before stumbling past South Africa by four wickets in the opening Twenty20 International of the three-match series here yesterday.

The 35-year-old left-hander, who has been sidelined in recent months by injury, slammed the fastest T20 half-century by a West Indies batsman en route to a top score of 77 off 31 balls, an innings which allowed the Caribbean side to chase down their target of 166, with only four deliveries remaining at Newlands.

Gayle belted five fours and eight whopping sixes, raising his 12th T20I half-century off a mere 17 balls to break Kieron Pollard’s record of the fastest fifty by a West Indies player, which had come off 20 deliveries.

Marlon Samuels chipped in with 41 off 37 balls and Dwayne Smith made a run-a-ball 20 in an uptempo opening stand of 78 off 37 balls with Gayle, to lay the foundation for the Windies victory bid.

However, as has become the norm, the Caribbean side needed to inject the now obligatory drama into what otherwise should have been a straightforward run chase, especially after Gayle’s fireworks paved the way.

Cruising at 147 for two in the 16th over, the Windies suddenly suffered an attack of nerves and lost four quick wickets for 17 runs in the space of 24 deliveries, to carry the game down to the last over.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin then top-edged a hook at fast bowler David Wiese to fall to a catch at long leg off the first ball, adding further worry to the West Indies camp but Pollard, who finished eight not out, smashed the next delivery to the mid-wicket ropes to end the contest.

Leg-spinner Imran Tahir was the best bowler on show with three for 28, while seamer Wayne Parnell took two for 39.

Earlier, Rilee Rossouw pounded an unbeaten 51 off 40 balls to steer South Africa to 165 for four off their 20 overs, after they opted to bat first.

Captain Faf du Plessis was brilliant in getting 38 off 20 balls, while shotgun David Miller was held to just 24 from 21 deliveries.

Left-arm seamer Sheldon Cottrell, who was handed the new ball, finished with two for 33 and bowled a great final over which cost just seven runs.

South Africa were handed a decent enough start of 30 by Morne van Wyk (17) and Reeza Hendricks (12), who managed to negotiate handy short spells from seamers Cottrell, Jason Holder and Andre Russell.

Van Wyk, especially, looked dangerous early on, whipping the third ball of the game from Cottrell over square leg for six, and following up with two boundaries on either side of the wicket in the third over bowled by Russell.

Cottrell got the breakthrough, however, trapping Hendricks lbw in the fifth over with a full length delivery which swung in and Holder followed up in the next over, having van Wyk neatly taken at slip by Gayle, to leave the Proteas on 33 for two.

However, Rossouw then anchored two partnerships to rally the hosts. He put on 46 for the third wicket with du Plessis and then added a further 48 for the fourth wicket with Miller.

Du Plessis accelerated the scoring, cracking five fours and two sixes before gifting his wicket by skying a Russell full toss to captain Darren Sammy at mid-off in the 10th over.

Rossouw, who hit five fours overall, and Miller, who found the boundary just once, then struggled to really lift the scoring as South Africa were held to 86 runs from their last 10 overs.

West Indies were three without loss after the first over with Gayle scratching around for three balls over a single run, but it masked the pyrotechnics to follow.

Seemingly awakened by a bouncer from fast bowler Kagiso Rabada that whistled passed his helmet in the second over, Gayle then sensationally launched the final two deliveries of the over for straight sixes.

He cleared long off with pacer Kyle Abbott in the next over and then ripped into the Rabada in the 19-year-old’s second over which gushed 17 runs.

Smith raised the Windies fifty off 26 balls with the first of two boundaries in the over from Wiese and then watched as Gayle savaged Parnell in the bowler’s first over – the sixth of the innings – which went for 23 runs.

Gayle brought up his half-century off the final ball of the over, carving Parnell to the cover point boundary.

Off the first ball of the next over – the first from Imran Tahir – Smith missed a reverse sweep and was lbw, but Gayle put on 36 for the second wicket with Samuels to keep West Indies on course for victory.

Gayle took a liking to Imran Tahir, punching the bowler over long off for six in his second over and then collecting two consecutive sixes in the spinner’s following over. However, Gayle perished off the fifth ball of the same over, brushing a reverse sweep behind.

Samuels, who hit five fours and a six, and Bravo added 33 off 26 balls for the third wicket but once Bravo fell to a catch at mid-wicket off a leading edge off Parnell, the Windies wobbled before eventually steadying themselves to take the series lead.

BERLIN, Germany (AFP) — Lucas Piazon’s spectacular 90th-minute free kick gave Eintracht Frankfurt a 2-1 victory at Hamburg yesterday, as the former European champions remain rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga.

Haris Seferovic gave Frankfurt the lead in the 44th minute, striking home Timothy Chandler’s pass.

Hamburg finally found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 58th minute as Lewis Holtby crossed to Nicolai Mueller, who got his shot through the legs of Frankfurt keeper Felix Wiedwald.

Hamburg’s first goal came 508 minutes into the season, comfortably snapping VfL Bochum’s previous Bundesliga record of 475 minutes without a goal to start the 1979-80 season.

Hamburg looked like they would grab a point but 20-year-old Piazon unleashed a perfectly placed free kick into the upper right corner to secure the victory.

“He can do that,” said Frankfurt coach Thomas Schaaf.

Frankfurt jumped to seventh place on nine points, five off leaders Bayern Munich, while Hamburg, who were European champions way back in 1983, have just two points from six games.

Augsburg are eighth with nine points following a 1-0 home win over Hertha Berlin earlier yesterday.

Augsburg captain Paul Verhaegh hammered home a penalty in the 27th-minute after Hertha keeper Thomas Kraft had brought down Raul Bobadilla in the box.

“The victory was enormously important because we have two away matches coming up,” said Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl.

“We knew that Hertha would defend and not give us a lot of chances, so it was important that we got the win.”

Reigning champions Bayern Munich remained top on Saturday with a 2-0 win at FC Cologne.

Bayern kept a clean sheet for their fourth straight Bundesliga match to move to 14 points, two points clear of Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Pep Guardiola’s Munich opened the scoring on 19 minutes as Mario Goetze struck his third goal in the last two matches.

The visitors doubled the lead midway through the second half as Daniel Halfar put through his own net.

Gladbach won 2-1 at Paderborn thanks to early goals from Patrick Herrmann and Raffael, with Jens Wimmer getting one back for the promoted club, who had been top before losing at Bayern in midweek.

Gladbach’s win took them above Leverkusen, who had to play more than an hour with 10 men but held on for a 0-0 draw away at SC Freiburg.

Leverkusen defender Emir Spahic was sent off in the first half, although Freiburg also finished the game a man down after Pavel Krmas was dismissed.

The visitors might have won it but Karim Bellarabi and Son Heung-Min both hit the crossbar in the final 17 minutes.

In Gelsenkirchen, Schalke 04 picked up their second straight victory with a 2-1 win at home over bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund’s recent defensive struggles continued as goals from Joel Matip and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting left them trailing 2-0 by the midway point in the first half.

Jurgen Klopp’s side did reduce the deficit shortly afterwards courtesy of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike but they could not find an equaliser and have collected only seven points from six games this season, one fewer than Schalke.

Ivica Olic scored in the 57th minute to secure VfL Wolfsburg a 2-1 victory at home against Werder Bremen.

After Ricardo Rodriguez pushed Wolfsburg ahead in the 15th minute, Marnon Busch equalised for Bremen after 37 minutes.

Hanover 96 went down 1-0 at struggling VfB Stuttgart, Daniel Schwaab scoring his team’s first goal at home this season in the 69th minute, while Mainz and Hoffenheim played out a goalless draw on Friday.

The Biggest party has come to the Caribbean yet again !

That’s how organisers have billed the second edition of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League T20 Championship, CPL, as The Guyana Amazon Warriors beat the Antigua Hawksbills by 2-wickets with three balls to spare.

Sent to bat, The Hawksbills made 136-8 off their 20-overs, clearly falling about 20 runs short of a testing total for the Warriors. Australian Ben Dunk 38 and Danzil Hyatt 36 led the scoring for the Hawksbills against the bowling of New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham 3-33. The mystery bowler Sunil Narine again showed why he is the greatest bowler in comtempory T20 cricket, sending down 4-overs, 1-maiden and conceded a miserly 3 runs at 0.75 runs per over. He was the spoke in the Hawksbills’ batting wheel.

In reply, The Warriors were paced by West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin 51, who is full of confidence at present. Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez gave support with 35 against Jamaica’s Sheldon Cottrell 3-24, as Narine hit the winning run, a straight drive over the top off fast bowler Carlos Brathwaite for four.

Ramdin was named man of the match.

The Limacol CPL continues on Saturday with two matches, also at the National Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada. Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel plays Barbados Tridents at 9:30am Jamaican time, followed by defending champion Jamaica Tallawahs against St.Lucia Zouks at 1:30p.m.

The Jamaica Tallawahs match will be televised LIVE on Television Jamaica, TVJ.

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Sunday July 13, 2014, CMC – Superstar Chris Gayle smashed a sensational, unbeaten hundred to propel title-holders Jamaica Tallawahs to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over St Lucia Zouks at the National Stadium here Saturday.

The powerful left-hander slammed 111 off just 63 deliveries – his first CPL hundred – as Tallawahs easily chased down their target off 162 off 19 overs, to send a strong signal to their competition at the start of the 2014 edition of the regional tournament.

Gayle, who has struggled with injury in recent months, showed no sign of discomfort as he blasted five fours and ten massive sixes, ripping into the hapless Zouks bowlers who had no answer to the onslaught.

He posted 32 for the opening wicket with fellow Jamaican Chadwick Walton who scored 23 from 12 balls before dominating a 64-run second wicket stand with Jermaine Blackwood who got just eight.

Gayle, playing at his destructive best, then posted another 55 runs for the third wicket with Australia’s Adam Voges who managed just 15.

His performance completely overshadowed a decent batting effort by the Zouks who rattled up 161 for five off their 20 overs, after winning the toss and choosing to bat.

South Africa’s Henry Davids top scored with 56 from 38 balls, striking five fours and two sixes while captain Darren Sammy finished on 29 not out from 22 balls with three boundaries.

Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher both got 27.

Seamer Andre Russell took two for 27 from his three overs.

Tallawahs began their run chase on a high, with Walton blasting two fours and a six off the first over from medium pacer Mervin Matthew which cost 15 runs.

Gayle got going with a six over long-on off left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin in the third over which cost 13 runs but then lost Walton when the right-hander holed out to cover off Pakistani left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir in the fourth over.

But Gayle continued his onslaught, smashing Matthew for two fours and a six in the sixth over which cost 17 runs, as Jamaica motored past 50.

He then ripped into South African left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe in the bowler’s first over, first clearing the ropes and long on before going straight for another six, in the ninth over of the innings that went for 15 runs. He raised his half-century off 30 balls with the second six.

Blackwood’s struggles ended when he holed out to long-on off off-spinner Shane Shillingford, after facing 18 balls for just eight, but Gayle sustained the tempo of the innings nicely, gathering 17 runs from medium pacer Sammy’s second over that cost 17 runs.

He inched his way through the 90s before reaching three figures off the first ball of the 19th over with a single to long-on off Matthew.

Gayle then finished the game with more fireworks, hammering Matthew through mid-wicket for four, pulling him over square leg for six, before punching a single to long-on to achieve victory.

Antigua government denies purchasing new fleet of vehicles following election victory

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Friday Jul 4, 2014, CMC – The Antigua and Barbuda government Thursday denied a media report that said the fleet of vehicles used by the newly elected Prime Minister Gaston Browne was being replaced.

In a brief statement, the Office of the Permanent Secretary within the Office of the Prime Minister said it had been made aware of the incorrect report carried on a radio station here and that it wanted “to place on record that this assertion is incorrect and can only be viewed as an effort to mislead the public.

It said that following the June 12 general election, “as is customary and in accordance with internationally accepted protocols, in the interest of the Prime Minister’s health and safety, an assessment was made of the current fleet of vehicles available for his use.

“A number of the vehicles were discovered to be defective with inoperable windows, air conditioning, steering, shocks and suspension systems and infested with pests including ants and cockroaches.”

The statement said that preparations were put in place to have the defective vehicles replaced with vehicles already in use by the Transport Board, which would not have incurred any additional expenditure by the government, insisting “no new vehicles would have been acquired”

The statement noted that Prime Minister Browne after he was informed of the issues with the vehicles “instructed the Permanent Secretary that it is his desire not to have the defective vehicles replaced, therefore reducing the fleet of vehicles used by the former prime minister from six to three vehicles.

“The decision of Prime Minister Browne to decrease his fleet of vehicles is in keeping with his administration’s policy of reducing the excesses of government including the use of police officers as personal aides of ministers including the Prime Minister.”

The statement said that it is “unfortunate” that the media house “did not seek clarification from the Office of the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office on the matter before conveying inaccurate information to the public.

“This is not only irresponsible journalism …but also places the Prime Minister and his protective team’s security at risk,” the statement added.

BOTH the governing People’s National Party (PNP) and the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) are confident of winning today’s by-election in the Cassia Park Division of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC).

Just over 10,000 people are eligible to participate in the poll triggered by the vacancy created by the death of PNP Councillor Cynthia Burrell on May 30. Cassia Park is one of three divisions in Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips’ East Central St Andrew constituency.Burrell’s daughter, Sheryn Bromfield, will square off against the former three-time councillor for the division, Beverly Prince, in what is expected to be a close poll.Yesterday, Deputy General Secretary Julian Robinson told the Jamaica Observer that the party is confident of retaining the seat, based on the “goodwill” created by Burrell in the division, and the fact that she groomed her daughter to carry on her work.“Based on the work done by Mrs Burrell in the constituency in the 16 months she had been there as councillor, including improvements to the infrastructure, there is a tremendous amount of goodwill on the ground for her, and based on the foundation she has built we are confident that we will retain the seat,” Robinson said.But JLP Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie said that although “the PNP is using everything” at its disposal to retain the seat, the JLP is “pretty, pretty confident that we will win back the seat”.“We have a candidate with a personal touch and a special appeal which has enabled her to win this division on three occasions in the past. She knows the people and they appreciate her work. We believe that the work the party has done and the support she is getting from the people, both JLP and PNP, will be enough to regain the seat,” said McKenzie, a former mayor of Kingston.Prince represented the Cassia Park Division as the only JLP councillor between 1998 and 2012. However, after losing to Phillips in the general election of December 2011, she switched to the much harder Hagley Park Division, where she lost, while the JLP’s Joel Levy also lost the Cassia Park division by 31 votes. The loss was the first for the JLP in 12 years.Meanwhile, in the 2012 local government election, only 2,206, or 22 per cent, of the 10,129 voters in the division cast their ballots. BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Barbados Tridents pulled off an exciting 17-run triumph over Saint Lucia Zouks as the inaugural edition of the Limacol Caribbean Premiere League (LCPL) got underway at the Kensington Oval, here Tuesday.

Chasing 170 for victory, the Zouks were dismissed for 152 in 19.4 overs despite a promising start by openers Andre Fletcher and Tamim Iqbal, who put on 57 for the first wicket.Iqbal lost his composure, charged to Ashley Nurse and was promptly stumped by Umar Akmal when he had reached 22. The innings never regained full momentum despite a commanding knock of 57 by Andre Fletcher.Kieron Pollard brought about his demise jumping high to complete a fascinating catch at mid-on, as he sought to send Nurse over the top. His innings was laced with four fours and four sixes. Devon Smith (9), Misbah Ul-Haq, 12, and Albie Morkel, no score, sunk in the middle of the innings leaving skipper Darren Sammy to struggle to increase the run rate.He managed 35 off 16 deliveries with four fours and two sixes before being bowled by Jason Holder while attempting to swing to long on. Shane Shillingford, Garey Mathurin, and Tino Best all failed to score, as the Zouks tried desperately to achieve their target.Pollard had a fine all-round game picking up three for 15 off 2.4 overs. BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) — Leeward Islands stormed back to pull off a nail-biting one-wicket victory over Barbados on the third and final day of their second round match in the Regional Under 19 tournament here at Conaree on Thursday.An ambitious ninth-wicket partnership between Tristan Powell and Jeremiah Louis chased down a mammoth 300-run winning target set by Barbados.The Bajans, who led on first innings after dismissing the Leewards cheaply, were hoping to press for an outright victory by declaring their second innings on 172 for four.However, Barbados did not cater for Powell and Louis saving the day by compiling 146 runs for the ninth wicket to swing the momentum back in the Leewards’ favour.Powell was unbeaten on 74 and Louis, 69, as the Leewards got home safely at 301 for nine.Over at EGSC, prolific Jeremy Solonzano smashed his third century of the tournament to set up a 30-run victory for Trinidad and Tobago over Guyana.Solonzano was undefeated on 136, while Bryan Christmas scored 72, the two putting together an opening partnership of 170.The Trinidadians powered their way to 236 for six declared in their second innings, giving Guyana a winning target of 272.However, Jesse Bootan and Brian Charles combined to stifle the chase and wreck the Guyana innings, grabbing five for 20 and three for 33, respectively, and bowling them out for 141.At Warner Park, Jamaica, which enjoyed first innings lead, cruised to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Windward Islands.Set 115 to win, Leroy Lug and Tristan Coleman carried Jamaica to victory at 117 for the loss of four wickets.Lug was unbeaten on 45, and Coleman scored 39.Taryck Gabriel picked up two wickets for 33 runs.

Day two of the 2013 National Cycling Championships for women and juniors came to an end on Sunday, with new-comer Rachel Gooden of Blissett Cycling Club defeating national rider Dahlia Palmer in the 32-mile road race.Just seconds before the end of the journey, which began in Annotto Bay and ended in Ocho Rios, Gooden who has been riding for just under a year, shot past the finish line to end with a time of one hour and 39 minutes, denying Palmer a third consecutive win in the championships since 2011.This is a first for Gooden, who is also a 5k and 10k marathon runner and a medical practitioner. Elizabeth Mondon, also known for her background in running, came in third.Palmer also faced defeat on Saturday at the Women’s Time Trial at Port Royal when Bianca Hernould from Cutters Cycling Club forced the 2012 defending Time Trial champion to settle for a silver medal.Mondon, determined to maintain a place in the top-three for both events, ended in a time of 29 minutes 17 seconds.President of the Jamaica Cycling Federation, Edward Harper, says he is delightfully surprised at the results. “I don’t think anyone saw this coming. Supporters and officials alike, rallied at the finish in awe to see how the race would end.“The two cyclists who came in almost side by side (and they) definitely pushed themselves and showcased good sportsmanship”, he said.The Juniors Road Race leg ended with Jermar Brissett from BreakAway Cycling Club out of Montego Bay taking the gold medal, Owen Cardoza Jnr silver and Romaine Ellis bronze.Saturday’s 10-mile Time Trial also saw the young Romaine Ellis from MoBay take the top spot for juniors with Andre Jackson from Portland and Conrad Johnson from May Pen taking second and third, respectively.Next weekend will see the Elites and Masters compete in the 25-mile Time Trial at Port Royal on Saturday and Road Race on Sunday. The Elites will race from Ocho Rios to Falmouth and back to Ocho Rios and the Masters from Ocho Rios to Duncans and back to Ocho Rios (about 60 miles).The first race starts 7:30 am and the second 7:45 am.Second place Dahlia Palmer (left), champion Rachel Gooden and Elizabeth Mondon (right) are all smiles at the end of Sunday’s prize-giving ceremony of the 2013 National Cycling Championships.

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Christopher Gayle hammered 109 off 100 balls and Sunil Narine grabbed 4-40 to guide West Indies to a six-wicket win against Sri Lanka in Friday’s opening match of the Celkon Mobile Tri-Nation series at Sabina Park.

The Jamaican left-hander entertained the home fans while striking nine fours and seven sixes for his 21st One-Day International century.Scores: Sri Lanka 208 (48.3 overs); West Indies 209-4 (37.5 overs) ?Earlier, West Indies won the toss and asked the visitors to take first strike on a pitch which appeared a bit on the slow side. CHRISTOPHER Gayle and Sunil Narine combined, with telling effect to help the West Indies to a straight-forward six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in yesterday’s opening match of the Celkon Mobile One-Day International (ODI) series at Sabina Park.

Scores: Sri Lanka 208 (48.3 overs); West Indies 209-4 (37.5 overs).Gayle needed only 100 balls to thunder nine fours and seven sixes in his thrilling, man-of-thematch knock of 109 that ensured the West Indies overhauled Sri Lanka’s total of 208 with a whopping 73 balls remaining — a margin which meant the home team also garnered a bonus point.In the process, the 33-year-old left-hander, who drove and pulled with typical power and timing, chalked up his 21st ODI hundred and his first since reaching triple figures against New Zealand at the same venue last year.Understandably pleased with his innings, Gayle credited the bowling effort for setting up the win ahead of tomorrow’s crucial clash against ICC 50-overs World Cup champions India.“It’s been a while… it’s good to get it (the century) in front of my home crowd. We restricted Sri Lanka well, the bowlers really did well.
