An attorney representing pop singer Bobby Brown claimed Tuesday that Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of the late Whitney Houston, is not and has never been married. 

Brown’s attorney Christopher Brown released a statement Tuesday disputing reports that Bobbi Kristina is married to Nick Gordon. Bobbi Kristina Brown has been hospitalized since Saturday after being found unresponsive in a bathtub at a suburban Atlanta townhome. Gordon and a friend called police.

In January 2014, a representative for the family confirmed to The Associated Press that Brown and Gordon had gotten married, but did not release additional details.

WAGA-TV reported Tuesday that Bobbi Kristina Brown had been moved from North Fulton Hospital, where she had originally been taken Saturday. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that she had been moved to Emory Hospital in Atlanta. Brown’s exact condition has not been disclosed, though a statement issued by her family Monday said she was “fighting for her life.”

Authorities are investigating what caused Brown’s medical emergency. Roswell, Ga. police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland said detectives had interviewed everyone who was inside the house when officers arrived and had obtained a search warrant for the premises. 

The Journal-Constitution reported that police records showed that one of the men inside the home Saturday, 24-year-old Maxwell Byron Lomas of Duluth, Ga., faces drug charges stemming from an arrest last month. 

Houston, who died after she was found unresponsive in a hotel bathtub in 2012, left her entire estate to her daughter.

Wesley Brown on cloud nine after golf rankings debut

JAMAICA’S rising golfing star Wesley Brown has officially made it on the international golf rankings. He has been listed at number 1,548 in the latest release, which is topped by world number one Rory McIlroy.

An elated Brown, who has been on a roll recently winning his last two tournaments in Jamaica, said making the international rankings was a dream come true.

“I am elated and so happy. I have worked very hard and made a lot of sacrifices and now all this is paying off, ” Brown said.

He was full of praise for his sponsor Sandals Resorts International for its support which has allowed him to participate in the international tour.

Brown, who is currently on a break until January, said his plan is to steadily move up the rankings and is confident that next year will be an even more successful one.

The Jamaican ace recently won the Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Event at Caymanas Golf Club as well as a charity event in Montego Bay.

With his golfing season now closed for the year, Brown said he will be back in action in Jamaica in January, but will open his overseas tour in February. “I am expecting even better things on the Carolina Series this year,” Brown noted.

He will next year be playing on the high-level USA Pro Series circuit following sterling play abroad. He had previously competed on the National Golfing Association (NGA) Carolina Series, which is a notch below the Pro Series, but due to his outstanding performances, had earned a shot at the higher rated Pro Series.

The NGA Tour consists of several tours: Pro Series, Carolina Series and Winter Series.

Brown is a caddy at Sandals Golf and Country Club in St Ann.

Khadra Brooks and Tramaine Brown, recipients of this year’s Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League scholarship awards, welcomed the bursary which they say will assist with their educational pursuits.

Each player was awarded a $40,000 bursary at an award ceremony held at the Jamaica Football Federation headquarters on Monday, for maintaining a level of consistency throughout the season.

Inspite of their many differences, the talented players share a similar goal, which is to further their education, while aspiring to move on to the professional level.

For 21-year-old Brooks, the bursary is a reward for her hard work.

The fourth-year student of GC Foster College, who is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, said the scholarship means a lot to her.

“This award means a lot to me, not because of its value, but because it’s a gift to me for all my hard work. This is my first time receiving such an award and the feeling is amazing; my school fee is a lot of money and this will make a contribution towards it.

“It’s a small contribution, but nonetheless I am still grateful because my mother will appreciate the help in this harsh economic climate,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

Brooks, who hails from Barrett Town in St James, only featured in seven games for the St Catherine-based institution due to a late start to her season. However, the diminutive player who favours the right back position, expressed satisfaction with her performances.

“I started late in the season, but I was in the starting team for the most part. My performances were excellent, especially in the semi-final game against Arnett Gardens,” she noted.

Having made it to the final last season, GC Foster College failed to take home a title this year, as they were sent packing from the Colourscape Knockout competition in the first round.

They were subsequently trounced 4-1 by Barbican in the Mid-season final, and had to settle for fourth place in the league after they were edged 4-3 on aggregate by Arnett Gardens in the two-leg semi-finals.

“It was a terrible feeling for us, because we know we are capable of winning the cup. But it takes hard work and commitment which is what we were lacking,” said Brooks.

“From here it is just more work for me and if the opportunity arises for me to join the national team then I will grasp it with both hands. But for now I want to finish school and then I will see what happens from there,” she added.

Meanwhile, Brown, who is a lower sixth form student at Jonathan Grant High School in St Catherine, shared the same sentiments.

“I feel elated and grateful for the award. I worked really hard and was determined to make my mother proud. This is just my hard work and dedication paying off and it will help me a lot,” she said.

“My mother is a single parent and it’s really hard on her at times because CAPE books are really expensive. So this will help to ease the pressure off her. She is my motivation to keep going and so I want to use this talent that God has blessed me with to make her proud, both academically and in sports,” added Brown, who has acquired 10 subjects in the CSEC examination.

Having captained her high school team, Brown decided to exploit her talent at Barbican Football Club. The versatile player was a feature in her team’s dominant season, scoring five goals.

Two of her goals came in both semi-final legs in a 5-0 aggregate win over Los Perfectos Football Club, which assisted her team to an unprecedented triple-crown defence.

“It is a great feeling; I don’t think I could join a better team. The team is well disciplined and hard working…we are like a family, being a new player they always push me to lift my game.

“I think I could have given more, but I was shy because it’s my first year; but I eventually came out of my shell at the back end of the league. All in all I am proud of the team performance, we stuck to our plan and executed well,” said the midfielder.

Chris Brown has apologised to Karrueche Tran. The ‘Loyal’ hitmaker – who recently announced, they had ended their on/off romance – slammed the model on Instagram for her lack of support when he was jailed for a probation violation earlier this year and even accused her of dating his rival Drake while he was behind bars, but he has now admitted he shouldn’t ‘air out’ his personal life on social media.

Alongside a picture of himself hanging his head in shame, he wrote: “Being young and dumb is one of my strong suits and emotional at best. I love hard and react impulsively when I’m hurt at times. I don’t think social media is a place to air out or hash out personal problems and a na feel hella WACK for doing it.

APOLOGIsING

“So I AM APOLOGIZING I live in a glass house and the same st that makes me great also is my curse. Everybody know I love that girl. I don’t care how my image my look to the public because I’m still gonna be the best at what I do. I just want baby girl to know I apologize!(sic)”

Karrueche, 26, has yet to respond to the apology, but she also used the website to slam the 25-year-old singer over the weekend, accusing him of “repeatedly mistreating” her.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “I refuse to be repeatedly mistreated by someone that claims to love me. That’s not love. And if that’s what you define as love then I don’t want it. If you can’t love me the right way then don’t love me at all. Don’t be mad at me because I prefer to be happy.”

Karrueche also revealed she’s single on Twitter. She said: “Looks like I’m a single lady again.”

The pair first started dating in 2011, but have broken up on a number of occasions.

During one of their break-ups, Chris reunited with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna – who has also dated Drake – and has since admitted complicated his relationship with Karrueche.

Speaking on the Murnaghan programme on Sky News, Mr Brown described the prime minister as “unstatesmanlike”.

Mr Cameron has said Scottish MPs should be denied full voting rights on issues which affect only England and Wales.

Meanwhile, First Minister Alex Salmond has asked for an investigation into the Treasury’s role during the referendum campaign.

He believes civil servants disclosed market-sensitive information about RBS.

Mr Brown said: “It doesn’t make sense to do what Mr Cameron suggested the day after the referendum, that Scottish MPs would be second status, second class citizens at Westminster, unable to vote on certain key issues like the income tax rate.

“So the Conservatives have got it wrong. I think they’re a hundred per cent wrong on this hundred per cent devolution of income tax.

“They’ve got to understand that their measures are a gift to the separatists, they would play into the hands into the nationalist party, they would drive a wedge between Scotland and England and make the constitution unstable.”

Mr Brown had earlier said Labour, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats should be able to unite round his proposals for a “powerhouse parliament” for Scotland.

His call came ahead of House of Commons debates on Tuesday and Thursday.

He spoke as Alex Salmond wrote to Martin Wheatley, the chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

He wants an investigation by the FCA and criminal authorities into Treasury actions during the referendum campaign.

The allegations raised by Mr Salmond concern contingency planning by RBS for a “Yes” vote.

The Treasury is understood to have sent an email about the RBS plans at 22:16 on 10 September.

A meeting of the RBS board which was considering the plans did not, according to Mr Salmond, finish until about 22:40.

Mr Salmond said the timing gives “significant cause for concern”.

The Treasury said then they were responding to inquiries from journalists.

It is understood they were contacted by The Sun newspaper after Lloyds had issued a statement about its future. Questions were then put to the Treasury about the future of RBS, which has been based in Scotland since 1727.

They said the story about RBS potentially moving its headquarters had already been reported elsewhere previously.

A Treasury spokesman said on Sunday that it would not be making any further comment on the issue.

Scottish Greens

The Scottish Green Party, holding its conference in Edinburgh, has backed a call to review the party’s 2015 UK General Election strategy.

In 2010 the party stood candidates in 19 out of the 59 seats in Scotland.

Co-convener Patrick Harvie said: “The last time the Scottish Greens fought a Westminster election we had around 1,000 members across Scotland, and now that figure is closer to 7,000.

“This extraordinary increase in activist numbers gives us the ability to knock on many more doors, deliver many more leaflets, and to continue the much broader discussion about Green values with the public that took place during the referendum campaign.”

He added: “We recognise that it will be an enormous challenge to secure a Green MP in Scotland, as indeed it was for our colleagues in England and Wales to secure the election of Caroline Lucas in 2010.

“But that must now be our ambition, which is why this review is so urgent.”

WASHINGTON –  Bureaucrats in Ferguson, Missouri, responding to requests under the state’s Sunshine Act to turn over government files about the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, are charging nearly 10 times the cost of some of their own employees’ salaries before they will agree to release any records.

The move discourages journalists and civil rights groups from investigating the shooting and its aftermath.

The city has demanded high fees to produce copies of records that, under Missouri law, it could give away free if it determined the material was in the public’s interest to see. Instead, in some cases, the city has demanded high fees with little explanation or cost breakdown. It billed The Associated Press $135 an hour — for nearly a day’s work — merely to retrieve a handful of email accounts since the shooting.

That fee compares with an entry-level, hourly salary of $13.90 in the city clerk’s office, and it didn’t include costs to review the emails or release them. The AP has not paid for the search.

Price-gouging for government files is one way that local, state and federal agencies have responded to requests for potentially embarrassing information they may not want released. Open records laws are designed to give the public access to government records at little or no cost, and have historically exposed waste, wrongdoing and corruption.

“The first line of defense is to make the requester go away,” said Rick Blum, who coordinates the Sunshine in Government Initiative, a coalition of media groups that advocates for open government. “Charging exorbitant fees to simply cut and paste is a popular tactic.”

Since Brown’s death and ensuing protests, news organizations, nonprofit groups and everyday citizens have submitted records requests to Ferguson officials, asking for police reports, records about Brown and the personnel files of Officer Darren Wilson, who shot Brown Aug. 9.

Organizations like the website Buzzfeed were told they’d have to pay unspecified thousands of dollars for emails and memos about Ferguson’s traffic-citation policies and changes to local elections. The Washington Post said Ferguson wanted no less than $200 for its requests.

A city spokeswoman referred inquiries about public records requests to the city’s attorney, Stephanie Karr, who declined to respond to repeated interview requests from the AP since earlier this month.

Some states provide public records for free or little cost, while others like Missouri can require fees that “result in the lowest charges for search, research and duplication.” The AP asked for a fee waiver because it argued the records would serve the public interest, as the law allows, but that request was denied.

A spokesman for Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon referred questions about the high fees to the state’s attorney general, who handles freedom-of-information complaints. A spokeswoman for his office said none had been filed on the issue.

In late August, the AP asked Ferguson officials for copies of several police officials’ emails and text messages, including those belonging to Wilson and Chief Thomas Jackson. The AP sought those records to reveal the city’s behind-the-scenes response to the shooting and public protests.

Ferguson told the AP it wanted nearly $2,000 to pay a consulting firm for up to 16 hours of work to retrieve messages on its own email system, a practice that information technology experts call unnecessary. The firm, St. Louis-based Acumen Consulting, wouldn’t comment specifically on Ferguson’s contract, but said the search could be more complicated and require technicians to examine tape backups.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri filed a public records lawsuit days after the shooting for Brown-related police reports, but ultimately received a censored report that omitted officers’ names and other details usually released in such documents.

Jonathan Groves, president of the Missouri Sunshine Coalition and a former daily journalist, said that while public agencies can legally charge reasonable fees for records, an unfettered Sunshine Law is nonetheless an important tool “so that we have faith in what the government is doing.”

Other governments also have demanded spectacular fees. During the 2008 presidential campaign, for instance, news organizations asked for emails belonging to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice presidential nominee.

The Anchorage Press said officials at first wanted $6,500 in search fees, leading the newspaper to withdraw its request. Thousands of pages of those emails were ultimately provided to news organizations for about $725 in copying charges.

Last month, the star was praised by a judge for his good behaviour after appearing at a Los Angeles court for a progress report on his probation.

In the course of the interview with host Keke Palmer, the 26-year-old model admitted that she is “fighting a battle” with the R&B singer’s former girlfriend Rihanna.

“I’ve never dated a celebrity before so it was very new to me. Paparazzi and all that,” she said about her stormy relationship with Brown, crediting a “level head and positivity” in helping her through it.

“And then even the situation with Rihanna. You know the reason why people tuned into this so much was because it’s relatable. I have girlfriends, I have family who’s gone through the same situation. It’s the case of the ex. We all go through it, do you know what I’m saying?” she asked.

“But in this case my boyfriend is a celebrity whose ex-girlfriend is an even bigger [celebrity]… So, not only am I fighting a battle with her, I’m fighting a battle with her 14 million fans or however else,” she continued.

“So, imagine how that feels for me when I gotta get on Twitter and I see a whole bunch of stuff… They make up all kinds of crazy stuff and it’s like they know nothing about me.

“But, you know, because they know nothing about me, because I stay so mute sometimes, that leaves open space for them to say whatever they want….”

When host Keke Palmer asked what the hardest part about the love triangle had been, Tran dissolved into tears and replied: “I guess I would say the heartbreak because it was a real situation.”

After his break-out season in the Red Stripe Premier Football League during which he topped the charts with 18 goals, Harbour View striker Bryan “Rambo” Brown will get a chance to leave his foot-prints on the foreign stage.

The former Rusea’s High striker has joined MLS club Philadelphia Union on loan until the end of their season in November. 

The deal came on the back of an impressive one-week trial stint with the club.

Harbour View’s general manager Clyde Jurideini, says it will be beneficial to all the parties involved even though the financial benefits will not be much.

“The market has changed drastically downwards and largely in a World Cup year, as you would expect it is largely on those 32 countries, at the World Cup”, Jurideini commented. “This is the second half of the season so the team is not in their primary part of the system” he further stated.

Jurideini quickly noted that the monetary value is nothing extravagant. “It is a small remuneration and it is a loan, it is not a transfer, so it is minimal at the moment, but the opportunity for the player and for the club, is what is greater”.

Brown will join goal keeper Andre Blake as the Jamaicans at the club.

Meanwhile, St. George’s midfielder Martin Davis, who also represents Harbour View, is at Toronto F.C. for a two-week trial.

If successful, he could join their youth academy next season.
