WASHINGTON DC-based deejay Monsoon has worked the reggae beat in the American capital for over 20 years.For most of that time, he was a member of the DKGB band. Recently, he launched a four-song EP he hopes will establish him as a solo artiste.“I hope it break new ground for me, ’cause it’s really a different direction from what I was doing,” he said.Back a Yard, Boboshanti, For The Rest of my Life, and Wine Up are the songs on the EP which is distributed by Island Traffic Records out of Grenada.According to Monsoon, the songs are “cultural with a little diversity”. Back a Yard is the first release.Monsoon (Denton Bedward) is originally from Clarendon but has called Washington DC home since 1991.He was with DKGB for 18 years, opening for dancehall acts like Lady Saw and Cobra when they performed in ‘DC’.Monsoon recorded one album, Higher Calling, with DKGB. He also did a ‘combination’ album called Eye of The Storm with singer Lenny Kurlew.MONSOON… it’s really a different direction from what I was doing
