INDECOM probes death of inmate in Mandeville

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the death of an inmate who was injured in a brawl at the Mandeville lock-up on Wednesday.Twenty-eight-year-old Trimaine Clair of Richies, Clarendon, was pronounced dead at the Mandeville hospital after being taken there for injuries allegedly sustained during an altercation with police officers in his cell at about 12:30 pm.Two cops were also reportedly injured in the altercation; one admitted for observation.This incident brings the number of police related fatalities in 2013 to 165, INDECOM said, adding that a post mortem is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.INDECOM said that concerned police officers have been served with notices to furnish the Commission with statements.
