Thursday, August 08, 2013A 16-year-old boy whom the police have linked to 10 murders and had been on the Kingston Central Police’s most wanted list for days, was yesterday captured during an operation in the hotbed community of Spoilers in Central Kingston.Head of the Kingston Central Police Division Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor said the teen — who had been on the run for several months — was held in an area called Text Lane.According to the police, at about 12:30 am, a police team was on patrol in the area when the teenager was seen, accosted and searched. A 9mm Browning pistol and nine 9mm cartridges were allegedly found in his possession.“The firearm was found hidden in his waist but placed close to his private area,” said McGregor, noting that the method is used to carry around weapons undetected.Yesterday, police sources alleged that the teenager has been involved in gang activities siince he was 13 years old, and is a member of the deadly Spoilers gang.“The area where he was captured is one of the hotspots which police have been targeting for several months,” said McGregor.Police said he is due to be questioned by the police in the presence of his attorney and parents later this week.McGregor yesterday said the apprehension of the teenager provides evidence of a growing problem the police have been working to highlight, regarding the involvement of teenagers in crime.McGregor said the police would continue to monitor the area.
