GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — The Regional Super 50 tournament will now be played in January instead of concurrently with the three-day tournament as was done this year, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has announced.
“We have decided to move the Super 50 tournament to January since there was a window available,” WICB president Dave Cameron said at a press conference in Guyana over the weekend.“There will no longer be the T20 tournament since it has been replaced by the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)”.The inaugural CPL, which features six franchises and involves regional and international players, is set to begin month end.The WICB president has indicated that the Regional Super 50, next January, will be played in one territory, which has not yet been decided.Meanwhile the WICB has formed a Retired Players Foundation which is expected to see a greater level of involvement from the past players.“Obviously for all the issues we have had in the past with our retired players and how they feel about West Indies cricket and our fans say we have not used and utilised these players in very beneficial way,” said the WICB president.“With this is mind we are forming the foundation which will be a separate entity from West Indies cricket,”Cameron indicated that both the WICB and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) were involved in the process of selecting officials for the foundation.CEO and president of Supreme Ventures Ltd Jamaica, Brian George is the chairman while members include Barbadian attorney-at-law and cricket commentator Donna Symmonds, president of WIPA Wavell Hinds and Dr Nigel Camacho of TT.Like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jamaicaobserverFollow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/JamaicaObserverHOUSE RULES
