Spurs confident of signing Soldado

Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign 28-year-old Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.

Negotiations between the clubs are progressing well and although some details still have to be agreed, Spurs are confident of completing a deal for the Spain international.

Soldado scored 30 goals in 46 La Liga appearances last season.

Soldado helped Spain reach the final of the Confederations Cup last month, scoring in the group win over Uruguay. He was an unused substitute in the final as Spain lost 3-0 to hosts Brazil.

The former Real Madrid, Osasuna and Getafe player would become Tottenham’s third summer acquisition.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas has already signed midfielder Paulinho from Corinthians and winger Nacer Chadli from FC Twente.

It is understood Soldado’s potential transfer will have no bearing on the future of Spurs forward Gareth Bale, who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Tottenham previously had a strong interest in Belgian striker Christian Benteke before he decided to sign a new contract with Aston Villa.
