– Everard OwenThursday, July 11, 2013Rasheed Dwyer and Danielle Williams secured two more medals for Jamaica capturing silver and bronze in the 200m and 100m hurdles at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, yesterday.Dwyer, the defending 200m champion, clocked 20.23 seconds and finished second behind Russian Anaso Jobodwana in an impressive 20.00 seconds. Japanese Shota Izuka grabbed bronze in 20.33 seconds.Earlier Dwyer had won his semi-final in 20.31 seconds.Meanwhile, newly crowned national Jamaican 110 hurdles champion Williams captured bronze with a time of 12.84 seconds, 0.15 seconds off her winning time of 12.69 done at the Jamaican trials.USA’s Vashti Thomas won in a new World University Games record of 12.61 seconds, shaving one-hundredth of a second off Poland’s Lucyana Longer 12.62 seconds. Bulgaria’s Alina Talay was second in 12.78 seconds.With these two additional medals, the small contingent have captured four medals to date. Host Russia continue to lead the track and field athletics medals section with 32 (15 gold, 11 silver, six bronze); and South Africa is in second place with six (three gold, one silver, two bronze). USA moved into third with three gold, while Jamaica moved up to 11th with one silver and three bronze medals.Earlier, on Shaneika Thomas cleared 13.58 metres to qualify for today’s women’s triple jump final. She will start jumping seventh in the round.
