Michael Allen, Jeadin White cop ICWI U-13, U-15 MVP titles

CAVALIER Soccer Club and Duhaney Park Football Club were the toast of the 2014 ICWI-sponsored KSAFA Under-13 and Under-15 football presentation at the ICWI office in New Kingston recently.

Cavalier Soccer Club defeated Santos in the Under-13 final and they received $25,000 and 20 medals, while Santos walked away with $20,000 and also 20 runners-up medals. Third-placed Real Mona received $15,000 and Allman Woodford received $10,000 for placing fourth.

Michael Allen of Cavalier SC was MVP for the Under-13 competition and he received a $25,000 grant from Paul Lalor, president and CEO of ICWI Limited.

In the Under-15 presentations, Duhaney Park, who defeated Santos in the final 1-0, received $25,000 and 20 medals. Santos walked away with another $20,000 for placing second, while Real Mona were third, receiving another $15,000.

Goalkeeper Jeadin White of Duhaney Park was the MVP for the Under-15 competition and he also received a $25,000 grant from Lalor.

Guest speaker Lalor was very pleased with the running of the competition as well as the conduct of the teams. He was also delighted with the talent he saw on display in both competitions and is looking forward to the 2015 season.

He noted that his company was very happy to be a part of the nurturing of children at this young age and that it fitted in well with their philosophy of corporate responsibility.

KSAFA President Stewart Stephenson was also pleased with the running of the competition and the overall discipline of the teams.

General Accident, Scotiabank "B" capture Open League, KO titles

General Accident and Scotiabank ‘B’ captured the 2013 Business House Netball Association (BHNA) Open League and consolation Knockout titles last Saturday at the Leila Robinson Court.The day started at 10:00 am with a rally for the 26 teams who did not make it to the semi-finals in both the Open League and Knockout competitions participating.Gleaner Company defeated Facey Commodity 9-4 in the consolation final to cop the Corral Christian Trophy, while Jamaica National Building Society defeated Lime 5-3 to cop the Beverly McDonald Trophy. GraceKennedy clipped JIO 9-8 to emerge the overall rally champions for 2013 and take home the Crown Packaging Trophy.In the knockout third place play-off, Wisynco defeated JPS 22-15, and Scotiabank Group ‘A’ stopped Sagicor ‘A’ 28-14 to take third place in the open league.The knockout final was a close game from start to finish, between Scotiabank ‘B’ and Transport Authority, with quarterly scores of 5-5, 14-13 in favour of Transport Authority, and 19-18, before Scotiabank ‘B’ eventually won 26-24, with goal keeper Blessing Forbes, goal attack Tanisha Hibbert and goal shooter Christiana Morgan playing a brilliant last quarter to carry their team to their first knockout title.In the Open League final, General Accident defeated Jamaica Broilers 39-26 in a one-sided affair.General Accident lead 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, then 14-12 at half-time. The third quarter was a big one for General Accident, as they wrapped up the game in the third quarter by outscoring their opponents 14-7, for a 31-19 lead.The game eventually ended 39-25.Goal attack Kerisa Kessna and goal shooter Margaret Byfield led the way for their team with accurate shooting and they were well supported by captain Nadine Bryan, national netball coach Oberon Pitterson-Nattie, Samantha Mundle, Tamara Hylton and Sabrina Spence. Bicknell, Haughton win Carib Junior singles titles

SECOND seeds Andrew Bicknell and Shelitta Haughton captured the Boys’ and Girls’ 18 and under singles titles at the 2013 Blue Mountain Caribbean Junior Tennis Championships at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston on Friday.Fifteen-year-old Bicknell defeated top seed Dimitri Bird in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. After his victory, Bicknell, the All-Jamaica Junior Boys’ 18 and under singles champion earlier this month, said he was very pleased.He added that this was part of his preparation for next Monday’s start of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Jamaica Invitational Tournament to be played at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre.Meanwhile, second seed Haughton came from a set down to defeat top seed and All-Jamaica Junior Girls’ 18 and under singles champion Michealann Denton 5-7, 6-4 (15-13 tie-breaker).Haughton said it was a good game and she was very proud of her victory.“She had beaten me in the All-Jamaica singles final earlier this month and this I can say is a revenge victory for me,” Haughton said.The 17-year-old Haughton, who attends the KBC Learning Centre in Kingston, rallied nicely in the tie-breaker down 2-7, tied at 9-9 and 13-13 before winning the next two points to clinch the match 15-13.In the Boys’ 16 and under singles final, Blaise Bicknell, seeded at seven, beat top seed Kyle Martin in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, while the Girls’ 16 and under singles final was won by unseeded 10-year-old Jenna Harrison of Hillel Academy, beating unseeded Jade Wilkinson in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.The Boys’ 14 and under singles final was won by unseeded Upkioronfo Ikolo of Grenada, who beat unseeded Jean Phillipe Murray of St Lucia 4-6, 6-3 (10-4 tie-breaker). Top seed Michela Stephens won the Girls’ 14 and under singles title with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jenna Harrison.Top seed Chatani Karan defeated unseeded Zane Walters in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 to capture the Boys’ 12 and under singles title.Meanwhile, Jamaica captured the team event title by beating both the Cayman Islands and Grenada 3-0.

Bicknell, Haughton win Carib Junior singles titles
