Spice gets 8 YVA nominations

Spice

The ‘Stage show Boss’, Spice, has returned to the island after an exciting and terrifying time in Paris, France.

present in Paris during the Charlie Hebdo attacks by Muslim extremists, Spice said though the tour was a success, she is happy to be safely back in the island.

“my prayers are continuously with all my fans and friends in France.”

on her return, Spice received the wonderful news that she was nominated for a whopping eight awards at the Youth View Awards.

“I’m the only female in the Favourite Dancehall Artiste of the year category, and that’s an overwhelming feeling. I’ve worked for that, to be up there with the males, who are dominating dancehall,” said Spice.

The other categories Spice has been nominated for are: Favourite Local Music Video – So Mi Like It; Favourite Local Artiste of the Year; Hottest Summer Song of the Year – So Mi Like It; Favourite Musical Collaboration with two singles, Only Thing Me Want and Conjugal Visit, featuring Vybz Kartel; Fashion Icon, and, finally, the Young Hot and Hype Female of the Year.

“To have eight nominations this year is truly a success by itself. Whether I win all of them, or not, I’m already a winner, but I know that So Mi Like It was one of the biggest songs last year, so, of course I’m expecting to take home some awards, especially that one,” said Spice.

Fans can continue voting for Spice by texting the category number and her name, (Spice), to 1876-444-4202, or follow her on twitter, at @spiceofficial, for the details on how to vote.

“I have taken the time out of my fully-booked schedule to be in attendance at the awards, and I really can’t wait to see my fans,” said Spice.

The Youth View Awards is scheduled to take place February 21 at the National Indoor Sports Centre, St Andrew.

Seanizzle gets two nominations in New Jersey - For songs on "One Day" rhythm

CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

The One Day rhythm produced by dancehall producer Seanizzle continues to reap success overseas, this as popular singles ‘Nah Sell Out’ and Rum And Red Bull are both nominated in New Jersey, for being two of the most played songs in that side of America.

The award is called the ‘Do Oscar Award’ and is a product of Vibes Link FM, based in the US.

Other Jamaican-produced songs which made the cut are Vybz Kartel’s Cake Soap, Mavado’s Pepper, Gyptian’s Hold You and Popcaan’s Only Man She Want.

According to Seanizzle’s publicist, Nackesha Doyley, the producer feels appreciated.

very persistent

“It is definitely a good feeling for Sean, he is a great producer and he is very persistent. He takes his music seriously and he feels good that his work is being appreciated elsewhere,” Doyley said.

Khago, who recently returned from a US tour, told THE WEEKEND STAR: “I feel good about being nominated. I didn’t expect it but a di hard work wey mi put in. It’s a good look to see that yu sing a song three years ago and when yu step in a hip-hop club yu music still a play if dem even only a play three songs from dancehall. Win or lose, I still win, because we a go up against people like Vybz Kartel and Gyptian. Sometime all yu need is one song to connect with the people and Nah Sell Out has a good chance’.

Khago continued: “Inna Jamaica, dem always a put away music too fast, but in America and the rest of the world a different thing, music last longer.”

Elvis Redwood, who produced Only Man She Want, says he is humbled.

“It’s a humbling feeling when you can sit back and soak in what it feels like to be a success in your field, this is merely a motivation to continue and put in the real work,” the producer said.

The nominated songs were monitored over a three-year period. The award show will be held on Sunday in the US.

Emmy nominations leave snubbed shows, stars behind

Entertainment

Friday, July 19, 2013

NEW YORK, USA (AP) — That cliché about awards says it’s an honour just to be nominated. But what about all the worthies Emmy overlooks each year? Are they being dishonoured by Emmy’s neglect? It was a question raised by Emmy’s latest round of snubs as this year’s nominees were announced Thursday.HBO’s magnificent Treme? Jilted yet again.Same for AMC’s The Walking Dead and HBO’s True Blood. They just seem to freak out Emmy judges.Showtime’s Dexter was shut out, too, with no Emmy love lost on Michael C Hall (a past best-actor nominee five years in a row) or for Jennifer Carpenter, who, as Dexter’s foul-mouthed sister, has never been nominated for one of TV’s most vivid portrayals.Anyone who saw Tatiana Maslany in BBC America’s Orphan Black was floored by her multiple roles as identical women who were revealed to be clones. But Emmy shut its eyes to a salute for her.FX’s motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy continues to get Emmy’s cold shoulder, despite riveting performances from an impressive gang of actors (including Katey Sagal, who won a 2011 Golden Globe for her role as the motorcycle club’s firey matriarch but, in her long career, has never snagged an Emmy nomination). And what about The Americans, FX’s splendid Cold War-era thriller? Sure, it scored a guest-actress nod for Margo Martindale. But how to explain zero recognition for terrific performances by stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys (not to mention the sly supporting-actor turn by Noah Emmerich)?Speaking of indelible supporting actors: Christopher Heyerdahl as The Swede on AMC’s Hell on Wheels, which, like Heyerdahl, was spurned by the Emmys. And is there any point in lamenting a second year that Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman were forgotten along with their great work for AMC’s The Killing?Kevin Bacon’s entry into series TV was received with excitement when Fox’s serial-killer drama The Following debuted earlier this year, but it was “hold the Bacon” at the Emmys as he and his series was ignored. What a difference a year makes: Fox’s comedy New Girl landed two Emmy nominations last season — for lead actress Zooey Deschanel and supporting actor Max Greenfield. They and the show got nada yesterday.
