The third quarter Survey of Consumer Confidence shows Jamaicans have begun a very cautious and small increase in their purchase plans.
However, large discretionary consumer purchases will remain contained by slow income growth and rising prices. The survey showed that home buying plans were unchanged from the last quarter and barely above the all time low of five percent.
Fourteen per cent of those surveyed planned to purchase a vehicle up from last quarter’s all-time low of 10 per cent while vacation intentions were expressed by 27 per cent versus 22 per cent in the previous three months.
