KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna has come out firing against a petition filed by human rights advocacy group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ).The JFJ filed the international petition citing inhumane practices by the Jamaican Government as it relates to juveniles in detention.Speaking at today’s Jamaica House post cabinet press briefing Hanna dubbed the petition as an attempt to sully the country’s image and human rights reputation internationally.“What the JFJ has done is factually incorrect, intellectually dishonest and over sensationalised, we do not condone the public promotion of information that is incorrect malicious and designed to unfairly hurt Jamaica’s human rights record locally and internationally,” Hanna said.JFJ has launched the petition through an online video and written information, but Hanna urged members of the public get all the facts before signing any petitions. She also pointed out that the problem of parental neglect which she said was the number one form of child abuse in Jamaica was not addressed, but rather presented as a failing of the Government.
