Friends of VMBS win inaugural Fast Five Rally

A team called Friends of VMBS triumphed over Blades United to win the inaugural Fast Five Netball Rally staged by the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA) at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.Friends of VMBS outscored Blades United 14-8 to take the $45,000 top prize money that was on offer to the winner from among the 16 teams which participated. Blades United for being first runners up received $30,000.Third place winners Blazers received $15,000, while it was $10,000 for Humming Birds, the fourth place winners.Oberon Pitterson Nattie, head coach of the Sunshine Girls, who turned out for Friends of VMBS, won a prize for being the top shooter. The prize for the best dressed team went to Portland.The other parishes which entered teams were the Corporate Area, St Mary, Manchester and Trelawny.JNA president Marva Bernard thanked the teams for participating, stating that the Fast Five Rally will become a regular event on the JNA’s calendar, and that it “will be bigger and better next year”.The Fast Five version of netball is a shorter version of the game with goal-scoring situations that offer more points than traditional netball. Fast Five is considered to netball what T/20 is to cricket.It was part of a fund-raising event dubbed Fast Five Rally and Fun Day which included a jumble sale, a number of companies showcasing their products.The money raised will go towards the expenses involved in sending Jamaica’s team to the World Youth Netball Championship in Glasgow, Scotland, in August 2013. Friends of VMBS, the winning team in the inaugural JNA Fast Five Rally played at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday. For the rally each team was allowed a maximum of two national players and one male player on the court at any given time during a match.
