Entertainment
Wednesday, July 10, 2013WHILE there may be no animals at this weekend’s circus at the National Arena in St Andrew, organisers are optimistic that patrons will be “blown away” by the entertainment.According to Tameka West, director of operations at Main Event Entertainment Group, the show is in keeping with international trends.“Jamaica has not seen a circus in years, and what we are preparing to showcase it what is trending internationally,” says West.Circus In The City runs this weekend, July 12-14, and will draw acts from Asia, Europe and Australia. She adds that the offering reflects the drive to present entertainment targeting all members of the family.“We will have different types of entertainment, ranging from clowns and magicians, which should excite the younger members of the audience, to our pyrotechnics and light show which should entertain the adults,” West adds.Among the acts set to take the stage are the Shaolin Dancers from the Shaolin temple in Henan, China, as well as the Kaifeng Acrobatic Troupe from the ancient city of Kaifeng in China.Circus In tThe City will also present Fuse, a pyrotechnic-filled act with acrobatics and fire.On Friday, the event will open with a show specially catering to children from various children’s homes across Jamaica.Contortionists entertain at the recent launch of Circus in the City held at the Knutsford Court Hotel in St Andrew.
