A driver and supervisor employed to a patty company were hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, after police intercepted their company vehicle and six pounds of ganja was found.
Charged with possession, dealing, trafficking and taking steps to export ganja is Bentley Rose and Calvin Robinson.
They did not enter a plea when the matter was called up. At least one attorney representing the accused men, acknowledged that they had the substance but said however that they did not know what it was.
The court heard that when Robinson, the driver, was cautioned by the police he said, “Officer is a little $14,000 roast mi get enuh.”
The supervisor, Rose, on the other hand is alleged to have said, “Mi have it ina di van”, before pointing to where the item was.
The investigating officer was asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, if the weed smelled good and if the scent was strong and he said, “Yes mam it smell high and of strong quality.”
“A wonder if dem put any in the vegetable patty,” RM Pusey uttered before the courtroom erupted in laughter.
Both men had their bail applications denied after it was outlined that the operation was not a stop and search, but one that was intelligence driven.
The court was told that they were held near the Spanish Town bypass.
Both men are to return to court on July 1.
A fingerprint order was also made.
