A Hanover man arrested twice for reportedly possessing paraphernalia connected to the illicit lottery scam had his bail conditions adjusted in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Nyhone Wilmot, 31, a plumber from Orchard Housing Scheme in Hopewell, Hanover, had his number of reporting days reduced to three times per week instead of a daily basis. He returns to court on August 27.
It is alleged that on February 20, Wilmot was among a group of men in Cambridge, St James, who were searched by the police. A lead sheet with overseas contact information was reportedly found on him, and he was arrested.
It is further alleged that Wilmot’s arrest came after he had been granted bail on a similar charge, in which the police reportedly seized a cellular phone with overseas contact information and several papers with identity information from his home last December 28.
Wilmot’s attorney, Charles Sinclair, asked presiding magistrate Ann-Marie Granger to reduce the number of days his client is currently expected to report at the Sandy Bay Police Station in Hanover.
“Part of his bail condition was that he was to report every day, and that is posing a challenge. He has to go to Sandy Bay to report, and it is a little difficult, so we are asking if you could cut it down to even two days per week,” said Sinclair.
“The bail conditions are varied, he is now to report at the Sandy Bay Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, at the same hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.,” said RM Granger. “His curfew order is extended between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.,” the magistrate added.
