MONTEGO BAY, St James — Experienced relay runner Leford Green, the national 400m hurdles champion, has been added to the Jamaican 4x400m relay pool at the 14th IAAF World Championships that gets under way in Moscow, Russia, on Saturday.Green, who ran a leg of the Jamaican team that was second to a USA squad at the Penn Relays in April, will join Javere Bell, Javon Francis, Omar Johnson, Rusheen McDonald and Edino Steel from which the final six will be selected.Each relay team is allowed a maximum two substitutions from the team that runs in the first round to the final, if they qualify.Green, who won the 400m/4000m hurdles double at the 2011 National Championships but opted to run only the hurdles race at the Daegu World Championships, was a part of the relay pool at last year’s Olympic Games. He did not get the chance to run, however, after Jermaine Gonzales pulled up in the first round and failed to finish his leg.Meanwhile, it is understood the relay baton practice will be featured on the final two days of the pre-championships camp that ends tomorrow.Jamaica qualified for all four relays at the championships, both men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m.Jamaica will defend the men’s 4x100m title; the women’s teams were both second in their relays, while the men’s 4x400m team took home a bronze.Leford Green en route to victory in the 400m hurdles at the National Trials recently.
