Lady Luscious to perform at Mini Miss Port Antonio

There are few female artistes more aware of their responsibilities to be an agent for social change than Jannett Scott aka Lady Luscious.

For several years, the Canadian-based reggae artiste has been involved in the organisation of the annual Mini Miss Port Antonio pageant that helps to build the self-esteem, self-confidence and poise of young females in Portland.

“My major concern is to provide more opportunities for youth, and to show them there are other avenues they can pursue in their lives,” she said. Lady Luscious is the President of JAAMM Idol Talent Competition which is held in memory of her daughter Aleisha Ashley and best friend Monique Mcknight, who died tragically several years ago.

Despite her own personal tragedies, she feels obligated to uplift young women in Jamaica, and she uses her musical abilities to convey a message of peace and personal empowerment. She is also using the upcoming pageant to promote her latest single.

“I am really looking forward to the event, I will also be performing my latest single Thank God For Blessing Me. I will also be shooting a video for this song ,” she said.

The pageant, to be held on Sunday at Hotel Tim Bamboo in Port Antonio, is a partnership between Scott’s JAAMM Idol and Mini Miss Port Antonio conceptualiser Sonia Patterson. The artiste will also be sponsoring the winner of the annual pageant by providing $10,000 to help offset academic expenses through her company Women Ah Run Tings Promotion. She will also be helping to judge the contest.

Born in St Elizabeth, Lady Luscious is a woman of many talents. She appeared in the Canadian movie, Jumping the Gun, released last May and won the Best Reggae Singjay/Deejay title at at the third annual Reggae Exclusive Recognition Award 2014 in Toronto.

Steele to perform at Pan Am Games in Canada next year

Next year Toronto will be the host city of the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games.

This will make it the third time Canada has had the honour of hosting them, they did previously in 1967 and 1999 both times in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

As a part of the countdown celebrations leading to the big games there will be a series of activities, and on Thursday, July 10, Jamaican artiste Steele, who now resides in Canada ,will be in action at Celebration Square located at City Centre Drive in Mississauga.

The free family day of activities will include dance, music, food and sport.

“It’s a great honour to represent in the countdown activities. I am looking forward to showing sports enthusiasts a great time, what better marriage than sports and entertainment,” the singer said.

Steele who hails from Hanover, is an accomplished musician, songwriter and producer who has earned a reputation as a perfectionist with his professional approach to his music.

The Pan American Games arethe world’s third largest international multi-sport games; they are only surpassed in size and scope by the Olympic summer games and the Asian games.

The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951 and the inaugural Parapan American Games were held in Mexico City in 1999.

Both the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are held every four years for the athletes of the41 PASO member nations, in the year preceding the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

Jazz & Blues night 3: One Third returns to perform with Kimball

TRELAWNY, Jamaica — After being one of the night’s opening acts, past Digicel Rising Stars winners One Third returned to the main stage at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival Saturday to support Grammy-winning artiste Bobby Kimball.

Kimball, former lead singer for the group Toto, performed some of the band’s hits from the 1980s including ‘Rosanna’ and ‘Georgy Porgy’.

With One Third in tow, Kimball also performed ‘Africa’, a track One Third did during their run on the local televised talent show.
