Shots fired near Biden"s Delaware home

Shots were fired Saturday night near Vice President Biden’s home in Delaware, the Secret Service said Sunday.

The agency said multiple shots were fired from a vehicle being driven on a public road outside the security perimeter of the Wilmington, Del.-area home.

The vice president and wife Jill Biden were not home at the time of the incident.

Secret Service personnel at the Greenville, Del., residence heard shots at about 8:25 p.m. and saw a vehicle drive past at a high rate of speed, fleeing the scene, said agency spokesman Robert Hoback.

Roughly 30 minutes later, a vehicle tried to pass a New Castle County police officer securing the outer perimeter of the vice president’s residence, which resulted in the driver being arrested and charged with resisting arrest, authorities said.

The person is being questioned regarding the shooting to determine if he was involved.

Biden’s home is several hundred yards from the main road. On Sunday, authorities searched outside the Biden residence and nearby homes to determine if any rounds struck the home.

Hoback said the incident is under investigation by the Secret Service and the New Castle County Police.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Dr. Rollin Bertrand, Chief  Executive Officer of Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) the parent company for Jamaica’s Caribbean Cement, has been sacked. A notice from TCL confirmed that Dr Bertrand, who was suspended by the new Board, had been fired.
Dr. Bertrand, TCL Chairman Andy Bhajan, and four other directors, tendered their resignations minutes before a group of  shareholders met to have them removed at a August 19 special meeting. The decision to propose a standstill came after TCL met with its lenders on Monday to update them on the present state of  the company.

TCL said a comprehensive restructuring plan will be submitted by October 31, which will include actions to preserve the operations of  the company, and ensure its long-term viability.

Al Qaeda affiliate fires rocket near US Embassy in Yemen - VIDEO: Rocket fired near US Embassy

A rocket was fired toward the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen on Saturday, wounding several guards, in an attack by an Al Qaeda splinter group to assert dominance, a Yemeni diplomat confirmed to Fox News.

No U.S. personnel or Embassy buildings were hit, although a nearby truck with Yemeni special security forces was hit, and guards were injured. It is believed that a barricade blocking the Embassy absorbed most of the blast.

Al Qaeda of the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed responsibility for the attack on social media, saying that it had targeted the embassy with a rocket, and had injured guards and damaged a vehicle.

The group said the attack was revenge for a drone strike Friday that had is believed to have killed two Al Qaeda militants in the northern al Jawf province.

It is believed that the splinter group is attempting to demonstrate its continued potency and its ability to be the dominant threat to instability in the country instead of the Iranian backed Houthis that recently seized control of major government and military facilities in the country.

The U.S. State Department said it had no indication that the embassy was the target of the attack, and confirmed that none of the embassy staff were wounded.

A rocket was fired from the militants’ vehicle using a M72 light anti-tank weapon before driving away, a police source told Reuters.

The rocket landed close to the heavily fortified embassy, hitting members of the Yemeni special police force who guard the site. At least two were wounded, police said.

The United States frequently uses drones to attack Islamic militants in countries such as Yemen in order to fight Al Qaeda and other terror groups.

Fox News’ James Rosen and Reuters contributed to this report.

Not a single shot fired, Ellington commends cops in nabbing armed robber on bus

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington has commended police personnel from the St Andrew Central Division for the capture of an armed robbery suspect Friday, who in his bid to escape boarded a JUTC bus filled with passengers in New Kingston. “The capture of this suspect was achieved without a single shot being fired. This brings great relief to us all, as the discharge of firearm on a bus with passengers could have grave consequences for citizen’s safety and the image of the Police Force,” Ellington said. Reports are that two men entered a business place off Trafalgar Road in New Kingston shortly after midday Friday and held up the owner and an employee at gunpoint robbing them of several items including an iPhone, a gold chain and J$6,000.A licensed firearm holder, who was a customer at the store, observed what was taking place and opened fire at the robbers who returned fire while making good their escape, the police say.One of the crooks boarded a bus which was later intercepted by the police. The man was apprehended without incident and a 9mm pistol containing eleven 9mm rounds taken from him.His identity is being withheld until charges are preferred. The police continue a search for his accomplice. “This bit of success for all was achieved because the suspect surrendered without threatening the lives of officers or passengers. It serves as a clear reminder that our members are determined to safeguard the lives of suspects, even when they (suspects) are armed and presumed dangerous, once they are prepared to surrender to lawmen,” Ellington said. “We have no desire to shoot suspects. We are committed to safeguarding the right to life and once again appeal to all armed suspects, once challenged by the police “surrender peacefully”. This is the right thing to do for your safety and that of others,” the Commissioner added. Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington
