Eight players accompanied by a manager and coach left the island Thursday morning for the Pan American Junior Badminton Championships, which start tomorrow in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.The team event runs from tomorrow through to next Tuesday, and the individual events will be contested from next Wednesday through to next Sunday.The players are: Jamari Rose, Samuel Ricketts, Tremar Barham, Sean Wilson, Shane Wilson, Katherine Wynter, Jade Clarke and Christina Petri. Manager of the team is Dr Kingsley Ford, while the coach is Howard Ranger. Three other players — Jonathan Smith, Rhys and Zane Reid — could possibly join the team later.Rose is the current Caribbean singles and mixed doubles champion with Wynter as his mixed partner. The other four boys have all previously medalled at these Championships with the Wilson brothers being the most prolific.

TEN Caribbean countries will be vying for Championship status in the 2013 Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships from July 1-6 at the North Sound Golf Course in Grand Cayman.Jamaica will be fielding a team of nine players, who are expected to compete in six categories. Zandre Roye is the lone competitor in the boys’ 16 & 17 category. His female counterpart Sherisse Walker will play in the girls’ 16 & 17 group.Jordan Lowe and Romaine Evans are in the boys’ 14 & 15 competition, while Kaitlin Robertson is the sole representative in the girls’ 14 & 15 category.Justin Borrowes and Sebert Walker will play in the boys’ 11-13 Championship event alongside Kei Harris and Tiana Cruz (girls’ 11-13), who complete Jamaica’s team.This year’s tournament will be the 26th staging of the regional junior championships. The team is expected to perform well under the guidance of coach Jason Lopez and team manager Sebert Walker.
