Illegal JPS connection claims man life

A Rural St Andrew community was plunged into mourning following a freak accident which claimed the life of man who fell from a light pole during an alleged attempt to restore power to his dwelling on Saturday.

Ricardo Hamilton, 26, a gardener, died after being electrocuted while attempting to configure wires on a Jamaica Public Service (JPS) pole located on Airy Castle Road.

Reports are that Hamilton fell from the pole and fell to the ground unconscious. His body was burned burned, almost beyond recognition.

Residents told our news team that it was a passing motorist who spotting his body on the roadway.

“When we rush out and reach to him, him bun up bad bad, mi sorry fi him but people nuh fi mess with currant, especially after it rains. Light did gone for a short time, I don’t know but the currant must have hit him bad because he was a black man already and when we see him, him black black black and was frothing, the only thing was to rush him to hospital and try save him,” a resident said.

Hamilton’s common-law-wife Samantha, was at work when she got the news.

She said, “I got a call minutes after 5 p.m. and when I went to the hospital I saw him. He was a trying and helpful person. I was told that he got shock and drop off the light post, but when it happened he was alone, is pass someone passing and saw him and took him to the police station and from there to the hospital”.

The Stony Hill police confirmed the death and said a thorough investigation would be launched.

Cop charged in connection to larceny faces additional charges

Additional charges have been laid against a police corporal of the Protective Services Division in connection to the theft of a motor vehicle, according to a press release from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency.

Corporal Stafford Barrett, who had been on bail for the offences of simple larceny and receiving stolen property, was yesterday charged with fraudulent conversion and fraudulent use of registration plates.

Barrett was initially charged for simple larceny and receiving stolen property on May 23, 2014 by detectives from the then Anti-Corruption Branch. He was taken into custody following the recovery of a stolen Toyota Corolla motor car at his home in Spanish Town, St Catherine. The motor car was reported stolen in Hopewell, Hanover, on May 9.

He appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on May 27, where he was granted bail in the sum of $800, 0000.

Barrett is scheduled to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, October 28, to answer to all charges.

Three held in connection with fire that killed children

Three men have been taken into custody for questioning in relation to Friday’s fire in the western parish of Westmoreland which three children died.

The police say the men who are from the community. were detained on the weekend.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of  the fire which claimed the lives of  14 year old Britney Bowen, 10 year old Beyonce Leslie and 7 year old Xavier Mckenzie.

They were left at home by the mother of  the 14 year old.

Policemen charged in connection with robbery and abduction

The three policemen who were arrested in connection with the robbery and abduction of  a motorist in Denham Town, Kingston 14 last week,were charged on Saturday following an identification parade.

The charges are illegal possession of  a firearm and ammunition; robbery with aggravation; kidnapping; assault occasioning actual bodily harm; larceny of  motor vehicle and conspiracy.

Their identifies have been withheld as they are due to face another ID parade.

It’s alleged, that early Monday the policemen stopped a motorist and after searching and robbing him, placed him in the trunk of his vehicle.

He however managed to free himself and was rescued by a police patrol team along Darling Street.

VENERABLE rhythm duo Sly and Robbie and the Jam Masters released their second album last Tuesday.Reggae Connection is the name of the set which is out on their Taxi Records.Co-produced by Kaz Asonuma, it is the follow-up to the group’s 2012 Grammy-nominated album, New Legend — Jamaica 50th Edition.Gangsta Luv is the lead single from Reggae Connection. The song is a ‘combination’ between girl group KGN21 and dancehall star Mr Vegas.Sly and Robbie team with singer Nioma on a cover of Maroon 5′s One More Night. KGN21 also puts their spin on the Wonder Girl’s hit, Nobody.The ‘Riddim Twins’ went outside Jamaica for Reggae Connection. Hawaiian roots-reggae singer Irie Love does So In Love. Japanese artistes Lecca (Minutes Later), Chitose Hajime (Hold Me), Coma-Chi (I Was) and Alba Natsuki (Yume) are also featured on the album.Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare have been recording together since the 1970s. They revived the Taxi label late that decade while they were members of Peter Tosh’s Word, Sound and Power band.With the drum-and-bass duo at the helm, the label produced a flurry of hit songs in the late 1970s and early 1980s.Those include Baltimore by The Tamlins, Love and Devotion (Jimmy Riley) as well as a number of classic sides by Black Uhuru such as Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and Shine Eye Gal.Sly and Robbie produced Anthem, the album that won the first Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 1985. They won that category in 1999 for their Friends album.Sly Dunbar (right) and Robbie Shakespeare have been recording together since the 1970s.
