Gwen Stefani announces pregnancy in email

File – Gwen Stefani

Gwen Stefani emailed husband Gavin Rossdale to tell him she was pregnant. The Hollaback Girl singer – who has been married to the rocker for 12 years – informed her musician mate about the conception of their third child, Apollo, through the Internet messaging medium, because she thought it was the only viable way due to their busy schedules.

Rossdale told SiriusXMradio station: “I got this email on the road, from Gwen, and the title was in capitals, ‘LOOK WHAT YOU DID TO ME NOW’, I was like, ‘What is this?’ My blood pressure went through the roof. And I opened the email, and it was the pregnancy stick.”

The Bush frontman also admitted he knew exactly when Apollo was conceived ‹ during a rare break away from touring.

He joked: “I wasn’t home that often, but I did go home for Father’s Day – that gives Father’s Day a new meaning.”

Presenter Howard Stern then admitted he was surprised when news of Gwen’s pregnancy emerged last year, as he thought the couple were “done” having children. Rossdale joked: “Me too!”.

Gwen, 44, gave birth to Apollo in February, adding to Kingston, eight, and Zuma, six. Rossdale also has another child, 25-year-old model Daisy Lowe, from a previous relationship.

Virgin Galactic announces hotel partner for space tourists

NEW MEXICO, United States, Friday July 18, 2014 - Virgin Galactic has taken another step towards launching tourists into space with the announcement of its hotel partner for prospective travellers.

Virgin has chosen Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces in New Mexico for the well-heeled passengers who will fork-out £120,000 per person to experience the out-of-this-world flights from Spaceport America.

Virgin Galactic also announced a contract with World Class Gourmet of Las Cruces to provide catering for travellers during their pre-space flight training at Spaceport and said it is relocating more staff to New Mexico and will soon be hiring locally.

The US$209 million futuristic Spaceport America was built by the state for Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson as the launch site for his trailblazing flights. The project has nevertheless been plagued by delays and has long overshot its original late 2010 deadline.

Virgin is now hoping to begin operations by the end of this year, although its public relations agency said in a statement that the schedule “will ultimately be dictated by safety and readiness — as has always been the case.”

Spaceport America is about 60 miles from Las Cruces, near the town of Truth or Consequences, and about 182 miles from Albuquerque. But even the state’s largest city lacks a five-star hotel.

As part of its partnership with Virgin/Spaceport, Hotel de Encanto will spend several million dollars on upgrades, which will include the creation of “Executive Suite VIP Wings” with concierge service, private VIP areas, customized room service menus, upgraded rooms and suites, and other improvements that should boost its AAA rating from three to four diamonds.

“By partnering with Hotel Encanto de Las Cruces and World Class Gourmet, we further our vision of investing in the local New Mexico community while we define the Virgin Galactic astronaut experience,” said Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides.

“Future astronauts will come from around the world to New Mexico, so it’s important that they experience the outstanding local offerings and character as part of their experience.”

VENEICE Pottinger-Scott, the new head of the Public Sector Transformation and Modernisation Unit in the Office of the Cabinet, is to take up duties today.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on Wednesday announced Pottinger-Scott’s appointment as director general of the unit.

According to Jamaica House, the appointment will be accompanied by the amalgamation of the Public Sector Modernisation Division and the Public Sector Transformation Unit (PSTU), under the purview of the director general.

At the same time, the Consultative Monitoring Group, chaired by banker Peter Moses, and which was established to provide oversight to the work of the PSTU in its task of developing the proposals toward the Master Rationalisation Plan (MRP) will be replaced by a new body, the Public Sector Transformation Committee (PSTC).

The PSTC, which will be mandated to finalise and drive the revised MRP, will report to the Cabinet’s Committee on Public Sector Transformation. The membership of the PSTC will be announced shortly, according to Jamaica House.

Pottinger-Scott previously served as assistant secretary general of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium, and as deputy president, Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), prior to joining the ACP Secretariat in 2005. She also held a number of other senior positions at JAMPRO between 1985 and 2004.

Her academic qualifications include masters degrees in business administration and economics, and a bachelor’s degree, all from the University of the West Indies.

Jamaica House said the appointment of the director general, along with the organisational changes, is a reflection of the determination of the Government to move forward the important task of public sector transformation and renewal.

eMedia Interactive will soon start to supply television content from its online network to cable giant Flow, the firm has announced.‘We have signed an arrangement with Flow where iVu tv will be supplying Flow with original content exclusively over the weekend,’ eMedia president and CEO Tyrone Wilson told Caribbean Business Report yesterday.“We have about 10 to 15 shows that we will be producing over a year that will compete in the local content market, from entertainment to business to documentaries,” Wilson highlighted.According to the eMedia boss, the company will by October start supplying Flow with content, which will be broadcast on Flow TV and iVu tv, dubbed as the region’s first online television network.“We see Flow as the ideal partner because their advertising packages are more attractive and they give more value across the network. Additionally, they are very friendly towards creativity,” Wilson said. “We are excited about it because what we are doing now is producing a lot of content, but we really want to get them out to a mass audience.”Among the eMedia-produced shows to be supplied to Flow is the documentary, 50 Years of Entrepreneurship, featuring appearances by key business people that have shaped Jamaica since independence. The special boasts cameos by the likes of former Prime Minister Edward Seaga and businessmen such as Charles Johnston, Roberty Levy and the late Maurice Facey, in what the media company says is his last detailed interview.Wilson said production is currently under way on another documentary, Barrel Culture, looking at the remittance industry and its socio-economic impact on the country.“That one is going to be big,” he promised.50 Years of Entrepreneurship, Barrel Culture and other eMedia-produced shows were previewed recently at the fourth annual Your Money eZine Business Summit held at the University of the West Indies in Mona. The summit, organised by eMedia, attracts a wide range of business players, from SMEs to large corporations.Wilson said the goal of this year’s summit was to create an environment where established businesses can offer mentorship and support to start-ups and include adoption of entrepreneurs into their long-term initiatives. Speakers included American entrepreneur and television personality Michael Michalowicz; management consultant and chartered business valuator, Kathleen Moss; Biz Tactics boss Sandra Glasgow; Development Bank of Jamaica consultant Audrey Richards; Stocks and Securities CEO Mark Croskery; and Wilson.Tyrone Wilson (second right), President and CEO of eMedia Interactive Limited, with Stocks and Securites CEO Mark Croskery (left), American entrepreneur and author Mike Michalowicz and University of the West Indies (UWI) director of alumni relations Celia Davidson-Francis at the fourth annual Your Money eZine Business Summit held at the University of West Indies in Mona.
