MONTEGO BAY, St James — Slumping Montego Bay Boys’ Club and Norwood Strikers scored morale-boosting wins in the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout competition, their first of the calendar year.
Boys’ Club beat Marl Road 2-0, while Norwood Strikers eliminated last season’s finalists Reggae Youths 4-2 on penalty after the teams had played out a 0-0 regulation and extra time score line last week.
Boys’ Club and Norwood Strikers are both struggling in the Western Confederation Super League and have not scored a win since the start of the year, slipping into the second half of the points table.
Their wins completed the first round of the competition and they joined other first-round winners Revelation FC, Granville United, Violet Kickers, Melbourne FC, Irwin FC, Little Miami FC, Catherine Hall, defending champions Montego Bay United, Wadadah FC and Tomorrow’s People, along with Paradise, who had drawn a bye through thefirst round.
Kalusha Kotes in the first half and Glenroy Williams in the second half scored for Boys’ Club in their win.
