More Pressure on USVI crime

REGGAE artistes from the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) appealed for peace in their country on August 31 with a concert in the territory of St Thomas.The show was organised by singer Pressure Busspipe, known in Jamaica for the 2008 hit song, Love and Affection.A native of St Thomas, Pressure Busspipe told the Sunday Observer that there was a strong turnout of 3,000 fans.He said it is evidence citizens in the four territories are weary of the crime wave that has gripped the USVI in the past two years.“It shows people are ready to come together and bring peace to the islands. It was an uplifting event,” he said.Pressure Busspipe is a victim of the USVI crime wave. In February, 2012, he was one of three persons shot in Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas’ chief town.His friend Shamal Smith, a show promoter, died from injuries sustained in the incident.Violence in the USVI influenced authorities there to issue safety advisories to tourists.
