THE Waterhouse resurgence continued with a 4-1 hammering of Rivoli United in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) encounter at Drewsland on Sunday.

Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson led the way with a goal in each half, and he was complemented by Damarley Samuels and Romario Campbell with second-half goals.

Davion Garrison pulled one back for Rivoli United.

Playing with a renewed passion, which was missing in recent times and thus culminated in three consecutive defeats, Waterhouse withstood an early 20-minute blitz from Rivoli United before Anderson rose above their defence to squeeze a header past a surprised goalkeeper Damian Campbell, at his first post.

Realising that Rivoli United were playing with the passion and tenacity that could erase the narrow lead, Waterhouse wasted little time in increasing the lead when Samuels beat Campbell for the second time in the match.

While Rivoli were mulling over what hit them for not making better use of the numerous opportunities that they created, Anderson increased their agony with a classic left-footed strike that Campbell could only watch go by.

Coach Anthony Patrick introduced Campbell to the fray, but no sooner the wily midfielder made his entry Rivoli United pulled on back through Garrison.

But that only flattered to deceive as the Waterhouses Campbell quickly restored the three-goal margin by poking the ball past his namesake in goal for Rivoli following a neat exchange between himself and defender Oshane Roberts.

Patrick thought that scoring eight goals in their last two matches was a good sign for continued success in the RSPL.

“That 1-0 loss against Tivoli Gardens and the meeting we had the Monday afterwards made the difference.

“The players were made to understand that they were falling short of what was expected of them. They have since made the adjustment and started to play football again, hence eight goals in two games,” he added.

Rivoli coach Calvert Fitzgerald, a former coach of Waterhouse, was graceful in defeat as he congratulated Waterhouse for doing what his players failed to do and that was “accepting the chances that came our way in the first 15 minutes of play” when Rivoli missed not less than five clear chances.

“But that is football. When you get the early chances to put away the game and you fail to do so, then the opposition capitalise on our errors and come out victorious.

“Despite this I thought we played a fantastic game. Even though it might appear difficult to make the claim getting 4-1, seeing we created so many opportunities,” Fitzgerald said.

Leaders Waterhouse continue to slip and by extension yield ground to chasing rivals in the Red Stripe Premier League.

They once again had to dig deep to find a late come-from-behind 1-1 draw to salvage a point against 10th placed Humble Lion at Drewsland on Sunday. Waterhouse also had to dig deep in their last home game to score a come-from-behind 2-1 win against lowly-placed Barbican, who are also on 13 points with Humble Lion. Waterhouse then suffered a narrow 0-1 loss away to champions and second-place Montego Bay on Thursday.

The point moved Waterhouse to 28 and keep them in the lead as Montego Bay themselves drew 1-1 with bottom-of-the-table Boys’ Town earlier in the day to move to 26 points.

Arnett Gardens defetaed Tivoli Gardens 4-3 to move to 26 points, but remain in third position in the standings.

Waterhouse, after being outplayed for the duration of the match by Humble Lion, national defenderHughan Gray levelled the score with three minutes to go with a screamer from inside the box to complement an equally brilliant pass from striker Jermaine Anderson, who had earlier missed a sitter from close up.

Ajuran Brown had put Humble Lion in front on the stroke of half time with the assistance of Waterhouse goalkeeper Kelso Cousins, who inadvertently had taken the ball over the goal line in goalmouth tangle.

“This is third goal of the season, but it is the most valuable as we got a point that gave us a little breathing space; not much but a two-point lead will do for the time being,” a palpably relieved Gray said afterwards.

“We came out flat in the first half and we were asked by our coaches to step it up. We did and got a goal. It was a team goal, although it was scored by me; we all had a hand in its creation,” Gray added.

Waterhouse manage to stay in front despite dropping points

OHMG retro party set for Waterhouse Saturday

Come this Saturday, fast-rising music group OHMG will play host to its first annual ’80s and ’90s party called Retro Flex.

The event, dubbed the ‘Sexy edition’, will take place at Balmagie playfield, which is on West Bay Farm road in Waterhouse, St Andrew.

Being organised by the Black Mattic-led Official Hitz Music Group, Retro Flex will feature the likes of ‘Oldies’ veteran Alanzo Hawk, DJ Shampoo, and ZIP FM’s ZJ Ice.

Twenty per cent of the event’s profit will go towards the Rush Worth Basic School for infrastructural development. Claude Buchanan, the event’s main organiser, said the party will give its patrons a rather unique experience as they seek to provide an element of surprise.

Ladies will enjoy a 2-4-1 offering until 11 p.m., after which they are required to pay $500 along with male patrons.

“This won’t be the normal retro party. We have plenty of surprises for the patrons and we are very confident that they will leave fully satisfied,” he said.

OHMG is based in New York and is founded and operated by Black Mattic, real name Kenich Lee. In the recent past, a local arm of the group was created.

OHMG Jamaica, also the organiser of the increasingly popular Biker Sundays’, also held in Waterhouse.

Buchanan is hoping to attract as many people for the retro party, which will kick-start a series of events being planned. The event is also being sponsored by Sun City Radio.

Tivoli Gardens’ coach Glendon ‘Admiral’ Bailey experienced the sinking feeling of how Jose Mourinho reacted when the Portuguese gave specific instructions but could not prevent Robert Lewandowski from scoring four times against his then Real Madrid team during the 2012-2013 Championships League semi-final.

Mourinho was quoted as saying he told his defenders everything they needed to know about the Borussia Dortmund striker, yet still he scored four goals.

Bailey revealed to the Jamaica Observer that he gave specific instructions to his defenders especially the hard-tackling Ranike Anderson how to keep Waterhouse striker Gary McIntosh quiet.

But that plan went awry and McIntosh was able to score twice in the 48th and 75th minutes to propel the Drewsland team to a 2-0 win over Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Stadium on Sunday.

“We just never followed the instruction and we never showed up today. I talked to Ranike Anderson about Gary (McIntosh) and his ability to move off the ball. I gave him a simple instruction, track him and he didn’t do that,” said Bailey.

That plan did not work as McIntosh latched on to a Romario Campbell pass and fired a powerful left-footer past goalkeeper Deron Duncan in the 38th minute to give Waterhouse the lead at the interval.

“Half-time again, I said it to him, ‘If Gary go to the bathroom go with him and you see it again, he was nowhere to be found’,” Bailey reiterated.

He continued: “I said to Damion Gordon, ‘Gary is having a good game, he is strong and running off the ball, don’t square up with Ranike Anderson. Play off him so that one ball don’t beat the two of you’ and the second goal…one ball beat two men, so if they don’t follow instructions the coach will always have a torrid time at it. And today we just didn’t do that.”

McIntosh popped up again on to another through ball and calmly slotted home for a facile victory.

Tivoli Gardens, who were losing for the fifth time from their last six games, somehow remained in seventh spot on 21 points in a closely-knitted mid-table in which only two points separate fifth from the 11th-placed teams.

Waterhouse, on the other hand with their eighth win, moved to 28 points and consolidated third spot in their quest for a top four finish and a play-off spot. They are eight points behind leaders Harbour View on 36 and four adrift of second-placed Montego Bay United on 32 points.

Harbour View were slated to oppose Sporting Central at home in a return to Monday Night football last evening, with a chance of reclaiming a seven-point lead atop the 12-team standing.

“We have done some work and this is the fruits bearing now. We have been doing well and hopefully it can continue,” said winning coach Anthony Patrick.

“We asked players to step up. ‘Tuffy’ (Jermaine Anderson) is away now and we got some very good football from the youngster today and hopefully we can finish second,” added Patrick.
