Suncity rescues new artistes with WPT

In an effort to assist up-and-coming recording artistes who have difficulties in getting their songs played on radio, Suncity 104.9 FM will introduce a new feature called World Premiere Tuesdays (WPT), effective October 7.

World Premiere Tuesdays will be a feature inside the popular Current Tuesdays theme day, and this will see Suncity disc jockeys dedicating an hour out of their respective four-hour slots to the exposure of music from up-and-coming artistes.

According to Chairman Steve Billings, a committee will be in place at the Portmore-based radio station that will screen the songs for the 10 best that will make the WPT cut.

“From the songs that we receive each week, our committee will screen all of them for clarity, lyrical content, composition and creativity. The top 10 will be chosen and those songs will be placed into rotation in the one-hour segment inside each four-hour slot on Tuesdays,” said Billings. “Additionally, the songs will be posted on the Suncity website and social media, where fans of the artistes can vote for their songs. The songs with the most votes will automatically go into regular rotation. The artistes with the songs getting the most votes, will be interviewed on the station.”

The process will be repeated each week.

Up-and-coming entertainers are asked to submit a CD with their song, along with a biography, and promotion photo. Each artiste should have an active social media page as well as a profile on Reverbnation.com.

Suncity, ranked number ten in the most recent All Media Survey, broadcasts in St Catherine, Clarendon, Kingston, St Andrew, St Thomas, parts of St Ann and Mandeville. An all-island expansion is in progress.

Cashflow Records in association with Suncity Radio will be featuring their top 10 Portmore talents in the Summer Rave: Portmore Star Competition on July 5, 2014 at the Famous Night Club in Portmore.

The masterminds behind the competition are public relations company Taylor Made Events and PR Management who have managed to recruit and aid in selecting the top 10 finalists.

The winner of the competition will get more than $500,000 in prizes ranging from a single produced by Cashflow to a video and a three-month public relations contract from Taylor Made.

The second place winner will receive more than $30,000 in studio time from HDX Studios and a three-month social media promotions contract from Big 6 Promotions.

“I am very excited about hosting this competition; we have received so many demos and emails from upcoming artistes in Portmore wanting to be a part of the top 10, so I know Cashflow has some hard decisions to make,” shared head organiser Talisa Taylor.

The competition will be judged by Cashflow’s Neil, Suncity engineer Jah Jah, songstress Raine Seville and a special guest judge. Performances will be from Seville, Mr Lexx, G-Whizz, Cashflow recording artiste Fabian and the new kid on the block D-Medz.

Admission is $1000. “However,” Taylor added, “Most persons have smartphones, so the good thing about the Suncity App is that it is free. Once you download the app and show them at the gate on July 5, you only pay $800 and that’s truly a great deal”.
