Caribbean finance delegates attend event examining doing business with China

WASHINGTON D.C., United States, Friday September 12, 2014, CMC – Representatives from Caribbean financial institutions are attending the first China Insights Programme focusing on the economic, financial and cultural reality of China.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said that the Caribbean delegates are among 11 senior representatives of trade finance and international commerce departments of financial institutions from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) attending the event.

The IDB, which is organizing the programme, said it is to help banks from Latin America and the Caribbean improve the commercial and financial ties between their client firms and companies from China.

The China Insights Programme will cover key aspects of the Chinese financial and commercial regulation, including current important trends such as the internationalization of the Renminbi.

“We know that the potential of the Chinese market is huge and yet, still quite unknown to the financial intermediaries of Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Gema Sacristan, Chief of the IDB’s Financial Markets Division.

“For that reason, a deeper knowledge of the Chinese financial system will help reinforce the commercial relations between both sides of the Pacific.”

The programme includes expert panels, networking events for the LAC bankers and their Asian counterparts and visits to the financial authorities, the People’s Bank of China and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

“China is the first stop of the Insights Programme, expected to be replicated in other countries in order to help other banks from the region in their support of the internationalization of companies from Latin America and the Caribbean,” the IDB added.

Ishawna"s Rum-Bar Chug it an event to remember

Dancehall diva Ishawna’s Rum-Bar Chug it debut at Sugarman’s Beach, Hellshire, St Catherine, last Sunday, was enhanced by the appearance of Avevanille, a dancer, dancehall teacher and Dancehall Queen promoter, from Rome, Italy.

Also appearing was recording artiste Specialist, Ishawna’s Downsound Records co-worker.

With Ishawna fully into her set, she called on Avevanille, who did a few acrobatic moves, much to the delight of a cheering crowd.

Ishwana also called Specialist on stage to do their collaboration,Do For Loveas the cheers went loud.

The Downsound recording artiste started her set with Legendary. She also did Everybody Ago Know, a spin-off of Kranium’s smash hit,Nobody Has To Know,Miss Kitty K,Need LoveandLoyal.

After Ishawna left the stage, veteran artiste Mr Lexx took the microphone and did a cameo performance as the females applauded his set.

Musical presentations were by the duo of Ikel Marvlus and Flabba Dabba, also known as ‘Team Shella’, and ZJ Ice of ZIP FM. The ‘Chug it’ party was also used as a launch party for Rum-Bar Flex Week party series, 10 parties will be held in two cities, Portmore and Kingston, Friday, August 1, to Wednesday, August 6.

The hosting of the Best Dressed Fun in the Son on Saturday, July 12 at the 13-acre Portmore Mall Park has been described as ‘timely’ by the Acting Mayor of the Portmore Municipality, Councillor Leon Thomas.

“At this time, Portmore needs this kind of Christian outreach, which can help to re-establish values among our people and solidify our faith in God,” he said.

He also noted that the economy of Portmore should be boosted by the one-day activity, which at the last staging in 2012 had over 80,000 persons in attendance at the National Heroes’ Park, downtown Kingston. In particular, he said the nearby Portmore Mall should benefit from the overall promotion of the Gospel Festival, as a buzz about the event was building through word of mouth.

“The people of Portmore are honoured and pleased to be hosting such a great event that will provide wholesome family entertainment and give our young people a chance to be associated with something positive and life-changing”, he said.

The Acting Mayor said during the 12th staging of the free-to-the-public Gospel Festival, he anticipated that the Municipality would be highlighted in a positive way, including the fact that the majority of residents are ambitious and hardworking.

“At the end of the day, I also hope that God will continue to favour us here in this Municipality,” Councillor Thomas said.

The Gospel Festival is sponsored by the Jamaica Broilers Group – through its Best Dressed Chicken brand – in keeping with their ongoing commitment to assist with the spiritual uplift and transformation of lives within the nation.
