ANOTHER three-timer by Oshay Lawes propelled Jamaica’s Under-20 Reggae Girlz to an 8-0 hammering of Curaçao, and into the next phase of the CFU Championship in Puerto Rico, following the second round of action at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.Lawes netted in the third, 73rd and 88th minutes to take her tally to six in two games.Kayla Gray also grabbed a brace in the 14th and 23rd minutes in her first start for the championship.Trudi Carter (60th), Georgia Bailey (78th) and Khadija Shaw (84th) completed the rout, taking Jamaica’s goal tally to 15 in two games.The young Reggae Girlz moved to six points from two games atop of the four-team group ahead of Cuba, on goal difference, after the latter trounced Bermuda 4-0. The two losers remain rooted at the foot of the table without a point. Cuba have so far registered 10 goals, without conceding.But despite Jamaica’s massive win, assistant coach Xavier Gilbert was not too happy, citing the weak opposition for his team’s lack of motivation.“In the first half the girls were very flat and lacklustre, but in the second half we stepped it up a bit,” said Gilbert.“Against Cuba we definitely have to start sharper, but I am confident they are going to do well,” he added.“Eight nil in football terms is a hammering, but we could play more fluent and the combinations by some players could have been better,” continued Gilbert.In front of a decent crowd for local women’s football, Jamaica wasted little time in establishing their superiority as Lawes latched onto a long ball and fired home to open the floodgates.The young Reggae Girlz never looked back and it was an easy stroll in the park en route to a massive win.The Vin Blaine-coached girls will tackle Cuba on Saturday in the top-of-the-table clash to decide the group winner.
