Digicel Business says the roll out of its underground fibre network in Kingston is now completed.
Businesses across the city can access fast connectivity which should boost productivity.
In June, Digicel Business implemented its 600 million dollar subterranean fibre network in key areas namely the Freeport in Montego Bay, the financial district in New Kingston and commercial areas in and around downtown Kingston and the ports.
In fact, Digicel Business has already signed on its first customers – the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation, a partnership that will enable further redevelopment of the Downtown Kingston business district.
Mayor of Kingston, Senator Angela Brown-Burke, commended Digicel Business for what she referred to as a timely investment in fibre optic technology, saying; “This investment in fibre in these areas is certainly very timely and I am very excited that Digicel Business is doing this.
It’s amazing because just a couple months ago, we were lamenting the condition of fibre from the Three Miles area coming down; we were lamenting it because we had a project we were undertaking and we just couldn’t find any fibre to connect to.
It was really a pilot to see what we could do in terms of surveillance and CCTV and so on under a Safe City initiative, given the issues with security—but we just couldn’t find any fibre to connect to.”
Speaking during a visit to the KSAC recently, Head of Enterprise Solutions at Digicel Business, Ative Ennis, said; “We are delighted to be able to demonstrate our commitment to the redevelopment of Downtown Kingston in this way.
We are especially pleased to be able to provide this level of connectivity to the KSAC and the people it serves, as it plays a critical role in the development of the waterfront and the wider downtown area.”
