Howard CampbellWednesday, July 10, 2013THOUGH he describes his latest song Patient as a ‘girls tune’, singer Spade says the title reflects his career approach.“It’s a relationship song but it’s a bit like my time in the music business, waiting for the big break. It really takes a lot of patience,” says Spade.Patient was produced by Ajang Music, a Kingston company operated by music industry veteran Marcia Simpson. Spade has been with Ajang since 2008 when he recorded the anti-violence song, No Gun.It was that year he started recording, after years of singing in church and entering talent contests in his native Spanish Town. His first released song was Trust In Me which was done for Stylistic Productions.Spade (born Nicholas Brown) is from the Old Road area of Spanish Town and was raised in a religious family. He sang on his church choir but became a regular at dances in nearby Thompson Pen, an area that has honed the careers of deejays Papa San and Lady G and roots singer Lutan Fyah.According to Spade, he eventually chose secular music.“I listen to a lot of the dancehall man dem like Buju (Banton), Sizzla, Junior Gong an’ I-Octane. That inspire mi to make positive songs,” he said. While he won the Munamar Talent Search in Spanish Town four years ago, Spade has yet to break through as a recording artiste. In recent months, his studio activity has increased, resulting in Patient and Better Life, another Ajang production.Better Life is also the proposed title of Spade’s debut album for the label which is scheduled for a December release.
