Sunday, July 07, 2013Spinning has fast become a way of life for many individuals seeking to enhance their quality of life, so come tomorrow, fitness enthusiasts at Core Fitness Studios in Sovereign North will add another meaningful benefit of spinning to their list, which is to raise needed funds for donation to the Sunbeam Boys Home.Digicel Jamaica and Core Fitness Studios have joined forces for an inaugural Core-a-thon charity event to work up a sweat in aid of the Sunbeam Boys Home.Selena DeLeon, Director of Core Fitness Studios, admits that the Core-a-thon is the culmination of an 11-year dream. “The purpose of the Core-a-thon is to share energy, shift energy and change lives. Tapping into our energy to spread love and resources to our community is one of many creative ways that we can all give back. I hope that this event will spark others to participate and remind us that our ‘Core’ is always what holds us together.”As a proud supporter of Jamaica’s development, Digicel is happy to partner with Core Fitness Studios on this impactful initiative. Tahnida Nunes, sponsorship manager at Digicel, expressed that “this is certainly another great opportunity for Digicel to give back to Jamaica. The staff at the Sunbeam Home is doing a wonderful job with the boys, some of whom attend top schools such as Kingston College and St George’s College. We are happy that through this event we are able to give a direct contribution to the home so that they can continue their extraordinary work with these boys”.Located in Nightingale Grove in St Catherine, the Sunbeam Boys Home caters to almost 40 boys, some of whom were abandoned by their family. The home was founded on Christian principles and established for boys who were living in the streets of Jamaica. The main objective of the home is to make the boys into valuable young men when they leave to re-enter society.Desmond Whitely, manager of the Sunbeam Boys Home, mentioned that all proceeds will go towards the institution’s educational programme. He also said that “this kind gesture comes at a time when the home is seeking funds for our Summer Educational Programme, as well as preparing the boys for back-to-school in September, so we greatly appreciate this initiative that is being done by Digicel and Core Fitness”.The day’s activities will kick off at 8:30 and will include spin and Zumba classes. Digicel brand ambassadors, Yendi Phillips and Miss Kitty, will also be participating in the classes. The cost per ticket is $3,000 and all proceeds will go to the Sunbeam Boys Home.
