Dancehall-reggae group TOK says its collaboration with overseas-based reggae-pop and R&B artiste Kreesha Turner will reinject dancehall-reggae into the international market.
Turner, signed to Nick Cannon’s Ncredible Entertainment, was raised in Jamaica and Canada. The collaboration is called Sexy Gyal.
TOK member Flexx, who spoke on behalf of the group said, “We have been working with an Orlando-based producer called DJ Budda and he also works with Kreesha. She wanted to get a more Jamaican sound because of her Jamaican roots, and so DJ Budda submitted our music to her. She told him that she knew TOK and she liked the songs, so we recorded our part and sent it to them and she recorded hers. She is a platinum-selling artiste in Canada so this is good for dancehall.”
The artiste said the song has been receiving positive reactions from persons who appreciate Jamaican music. He also disclosed that the group took Cannon and Turner to several entertainment hotspots, including Wet Sundayz and Hellshire Beach.
“It is good to see that Nick Cannon found an interest in dancehall music because in recent times, dancehall sorta lost its presence in the international market. The local fans were also happy to see Nick, and many came to take pictures with him in disbelief,” he said.
TOK will release its album, Taking Over in 2015. The group will also host its annual festival, Blue Mountain Music Festival, on February 21-22.
Cannon, a record producer, rapper, actor, and TV host, is best known for his MTV show Wild N Out. A video for Sexy Gyal will be released in 2015.
