CASE go down 5-4 on penalties to NCU

NORTHERN Caribbean University (NCU) defeated the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) 5-4 on penalties in the Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association Greg Garrell knockout football competition at Snow Hill field on Tuesday afternoon.

The teams had played to a 3-3 result in the second round game at full and extra time.

NCU’s Kenroy Lee in the 22nd and 89th minutes, and Osmond Gordon in the 39th were on target, while Orville Gyles in the 59th, and Maghate Duncan in the 77th and 87th minutes replied for CASE.

The first half of the game was dominated by NCU and just about midway the first half they went ahead via the penalty spot after referee Weston Costley intervened when Shea Chambers was pulled down.

They went further ahead when Chambers’ corner was headed in by Gordon.

CASE pulled one back 12 minutes after the resumption when Gyles from close range ended a three-man attack which included Duncan and Travis Rowe.

The losers were then reduced to 10 players in the 62nd minute when Travis Rowe was dismissed for his second caution.

CASE were not daunted and regained parity in the 77th minute when Duncan lobbed the NCU custodian Adrian Whyte.

They then went ahead 10 minutes later when Duncan was pulled down in the penalty area. He made no mistake.

But before the celebrations died NCU were on level terms when Lee fired home to send the game into extra time, and eventually penalty kicks.
