Reggae Boy Errol Stevens grabbed a brace on his Thailand debut for Gulf Saraburi FC in their 2-0 win over Rayong FC on Saturday.Stevens, 27, who signed a few weeks ago, thanked God after scoring twice because only a few months ago he had doubts as to whether he would continue playing after a knee surgery.“I did a knee surgery and the doc told me six to nine months. I thought I could have maybe taken a long vacation. But after three months I told my friends, I’d just stand on the field and I can’t move, so you have to pass the ball straight to me and I can only use my left leg,” said Stevens while at Arnett Gardens. That didn’t work out too well with his teammates who constantly told him to rest, but his determination in getting back on the field was very strong and he started working out in the gym and on the beach on his own.“I wondered how it was taking so long. I started driving to the beach to swim and run, but then I wanted more work, I went and bought a bicycle just to work my legs because I figured driving was too easy,” he pointed out.He continued: “The whole rehab was full of pain and sad feelings. Many evenings I’d go to train at Arnett and my teammates would say your foot not ready go rest. But I guess I couldn’t believe that rest would work. I pushed myself all the way and at the end of February I played my first game though not 100 per cent fit. I just needed that feeling of playing again.”Stevens, who made his senior debut against Colombia in 2011, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, had previously played in Russia for FC Khimki in 2009, and more recently donned the colours of Hanio FC in the Vietnam league in 2012.“All this doesn’t even explain half the faith I have in God, not in myself, because if it was up to me alone I’d have quit a long time ago. God is working all the time, even when things aren’t going your way,” said Stevens.
