Drywall repair is something every homeowner has to go through. Whether it be caused by drilling holes for shelves or driving nails in for painting or picture frames, walls need to be touched up once in a while to hide the little damages they have incurred throughout the years. Sometimes moisture also causes walls to crack or dent. But drywall repair is not as difficult to do as it seems. In fact, it is one of the easiest home improvements you can do.
Small Holes and Cracks
The simplest damage to repair is the small holes and cracks caused by nails or drills. All you need to do is to cover these holes and cracks with light weight spackle or putty, using a putty knife. However, after the spackle has dried, it might be necessary to sand the area in order to level it with the rest of the wall. Apply a fresh coat of paint after, to blend the colors.
Unfastened Fasteners
For one reason or another, sometimes nails, screw or hooks suddenly pop off from our walls. This could be caused by many things: a shift in the wall frame, pressure against the wall or the ceiling, or simply your builder's failure to secure the drywall onto the framing. When this happens to you, don't panic. Simply drive in a new screw about an inch and a half away from the where the original one was. Then carefully drive the old screw back into its place. If you don't see any damage occur while you're driving in these screws, apply spackle onto the areas you've repaired. Finish it off with a fresh coat of paint.
Drywall repair is simple and easy. Good luck in your home improvement!
